He said firefighters were not afraid of the City <br />and would do whatever was necessary to obtain their goal of parity. <br /> <br />Mr. Bruce Williams, 5856 Christy, said he represented firefighters in the city <br />of St. Louis. He said in 1972, St. Louis firefighters submitted an initiative <br />petition for pay parity, the voters approved it, and they have had pay parity <br />ever since. He suggested that this has happened in many places in the United <br />States, and that firefighters deserved pay parity with the police. <br /> <br />Mr. Harold Yalem, 1151 Indian Meadows, Oliv~Lte, head of the University city <br />Auxiliary Fire Depaz~nt, said that up to about 20 years ago, the Police and <br />Fire De--ts had ec~al pay, but at that time pay schedules were revised. <br />Firefighte~ were taking risks every day, just as the police do, and should <br />receive ec~,al pay, he said. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus said pezhaps not everyone present was aware that the City Char- <br />%er pr~b_ibits the Council f~,, taking part in negotiations concerning City <br />personnel. However, she wanted fire personnel to know that everyone respects, <br />admires, and de~ends on th~ to k~ep the city and its residents safe, and for <br />that they have, and will continue to have, the City's gratitude. <br /> <br />~he City Clerk said Bill No. 7921 should be amended prior to the second read- <br />lng bec~_~use of an omission. Fur. Adams moved that Bill No. 7921 be amended to <br />include the position of Collection Specialist. Mr. Price seconded the motion. <br />~he roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmembers Price, Adams, Wag- <br />net, Sd~uman, Schoomer, ~h~,~son, and Mayor Majerus.
