SESSI~ 1494 <br /> <br />MINUTES OF THE ~ITY CITf <X/INCIL <br /> <br /> May 10, 1989 <br /> <br />At a special budget study meeting of the City Council of University City held <br />in the Emexgency Operations Center of City Hall on Wednesday, May 10, 1989, <br />Councilmember Joseph L. A~a~, Jr. presided and called the meeting to order at <br />7:30 p.m. In addition to Mr. Adams, the following members of the Council were <br />present: <br /> <br />Mr. Byron R. Price* <br />Mr. Robert G. Wagner <br />Mrs. Mary V. Schuman <br />Mr. Paul E. Schoomer <br />Mrs. Betty L. ~t~son* <br /> <br />*Mr. Price arrived at 7:40 p.m. and Mrs. Th~son arrived at 8:40 p.m. Mayor <br /> <br />Also present were City Manager Frank Ollendorff and Director of Finance Willie <br />Norfleet. <br /> <br />RT~:CI'iON OF MAYOR <br /> <br />Mr. schoomer moved that Mr. Adams be elected Mayor Pro Tern for this meeting. <br />Mrs. Schuman seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. <br /> <br />~ne public was invited to attend the meeting as observers. The budget w~s the <br />only subject discussed. <br /> <br />2020 Fire De~az~,~nt (Daqe C-42). The City Manager said that federal funding <br />cuts resulted in the transfer of a secretarial position formerly in Disaster <br />Planning to the Fire Depa~h~nt. ~his secretary will take over the record- <br />k~eping duties of a just-retired battalion chief, and the department will have <br />three instead of four battalion chiefs in the future. The other change is in <br />727.04 R~ental of Machinery and Mechanical Equipment, which formerly covered a <br />rental car for the Fire Chief. A car allowance (shown in 722.05) will be pro- <br />vided instead, resulting in savings of about $2,000 a year. Mr. Wagner asked <br />about the increase in 732.13 Hardware and Hand Tools, and Mr. Ollendorff said <br />that was due to new Scott airpacks for all firefighters, as required by OSHA. <br /> <br />*Mr. Price arrived at this time. <br /> <br />2030 Disaster Plannirm and 0~eraticns (paqe C-46). Mr. Ollendorff said the <br />only change here w~s removal of the secretarial position referred to above <br />f£~, this budget to the Fire Depa~,~nt, and a small amount for a part-tim~ <br />switchboard operator, who will work the remainder of the time in the Park De- <br />partment. Mr. Wagner asked about 726.03 Telephone which showed a large de- <br />crease for next year. Mr. Ollendorff said long-distance and other costs for- <br />merly charged to this depa~h~nt are now charged to the department in which <br />they originate. <br /> <br /> <br />
