SMS has been chartered by the State of Missouri and is in the process of <br />applying to the IRS to be designated a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization. The <br />SMS would like to request that the City lease the farmhouse and adjacent lot at <br />the cost of $1.00 per year. Upon receiving the commitment, the SMS will begin <br />to raise funds to renovate the building so it can become safely accessible to the <br />public. The SMS will present at the April 16, 5:30 Study Session in Council <br />Chambers. Their proposal is attached. <br /> <br /> Assistant to the City Manager, <br />I am pleased to announce that the newPetree <br />Eastman, joined our staff this week. A University City resident, Ms. Eastman <br />brings a wealth of experience and education to the position. Her professional <br />experience includes a background as an attorney with Armstrong, Teasdale, <br />Schlafly and Davis, acting as President of the St. Francis Homes Association in <br />San Francisco, and consultant on school desegregation matters with the Missouri <br />Attorney General’s Office. Her education includes a B.A. in Business <br />Management and Media/Public Communications, a law degree from St. Louis <br />University where she graduated cum laude. Most recently, with a second career <br />in city management in mind, she obtained her Masters of City and Regional <br />Planning from the University of California-Berkeley. Her initial goal areas <br />include: <br />? <br /> Senior Service Assessment: Identify and develop programming and a <br />financial plan for inclusion in the FY 08 Budget <br />? <br /> Assist with coordination and marketing of the Sold-on-U-City and U-City <br />Home Tour Events <br />? <br /> Establish a liaison relationship with the University City School District, U- <br />City Dog Park, U-City in Bloom, and various other volunteer organizations. <br />? <br /> Assist the City Manager and Deputy City Manager with citywide budget <br />preparation and preparing other supplemental budget reports for the City <br />Council <br />? <br /> Refinement of the Elected and Appointed official Handbook and <br />coordination of on-going training opportunities for Boards and <br />Commissions <br /> <br />School Board <br />On Thursday evening, the honored outgoing President Kristin <br />Sobotka and outgoing Secretary Joy Lieberman as they convened their last <br />meeting. The Board additionally honored Ms. Lieberman for her 24 years of <br />service to the Board and the Children of the district by renaming the Alternative <br />School The “Joy Lieberman Learning Center. “ The new Board President is Ms. <br />Maryanne Coley; the new Vice President Ms. McClelland and the new Secretary, <br />Dr. Robert Elgin. Julian Nicks was elected by the students to be the student <br />representative on the Board. Mr. Nicks is a sophomore at University City High <br />School, president of the sophomore class, on the track team and in the Jazz <br />Band. <br /> <br />The School District has invited you to join them along with the members of the <br />tour of the <br />recent Long Range Planning Committee on a <br /> <br />
