February 26, 2007 <br />Ms. Brot reported on the Big Read program which she organized for members of the <br />U.City government, U.City High School students, and their parents. The Big Read <br />program was sponsored by Washington University in conjunction with three cities, many <br />libraries, and cultural organizations; a grant was received from the National Endowment <br />for the Arts; this initiative was designed to revitalize the role of literature in American <br />popular culture. Everyone participating read the book Fahrenheit 451. <br /> <br />University City’s program included two parts: 1- a pizza lunch and impromptu acting out <br />of the themes from the book; part 2- Tour of City Hall, followed by attending a Council <br />Meeting. Those who participated in both parts had their names entered in a drawing. <br />Four students and one parent won a gift certificate for a meal at Blueberry Hill. The grant <br />money was supplemented by a contribution from Blueberry Hill for these meals. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br />1. Harriett Woods’ recognition <br />Ms. Brot read the resolution honoring Harriett Friedman Woods as a University <br />City resident whose accomplishments were many. Foremost, she served as a <br />University City Council Member, was elected to the Missouri State Senate, was <br />acclaimed President of the National Women’s Caucus, and was a mentor to <br />female candidates throughout the United States. The resolution declared June 2, <br />2007 to be called the Harriett Woods’ Day, the day which would have marked <br />th <br />this public servant’s 80 birthday <br /> <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />1. Twelve 2007 Chevrolet Impala Police Cars <br />2. Conditional Use Permit for 560 Trinity <br />3. One Chevrolet Trail Blazer for Fire Department <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner moved for approval, seconded by Mr. Sharpe, Jr. and approved <br />unanimously. <br /> <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br /> <br />The Public Hearing was opened at 6:45 p.m. At the onset of the Public Hearing, Mayor <br />Adams announced that the rezoning of #1 McKnight Place would be continued to the <br />Council meeting on March 19, 2007. He said if anyone was present to speak tonight and <br />could not make the next Council meeting, he/she would be heard. He encouraged <br />speakers to reserve their comments to only one night if their comments would not <br />change. <br /> <br />1. Rezoning for #1 McKnight Place <br />No one chose to speak this night. The Public Hearing was closed at 6:48 p.m. <br /> <br />2. Comprehensive Plan Update <br />The Public Hearing was opened and closed at 6:50 p.m. as no one was present to <br />speak since it was to be continued on March 19, 2007. <br /> 2 <br /> <br />
