VERSION 1 <br /> <br /> <br />Richard Dockett, <br />Mr. Dockett said that the Sutter-Meyer farmhouse represents the cradle of civilization of <br />University City. He encouraged Council to consider working with the Society to bring the <br />Sutter-Meyer farmhouse to life. <br /> <br />Greg Paulus <br />Mr. Paulus, President of the Mound City Archeological Society, talked about his groups’ <br />archeological dig completed on the grounds of the Sutter-Meyer farmhouse. He is the <br />president of the Mound City Archeological Society. He started with the definition of a <br />community. Mr. Paulus urged the Council to preserve the City’s connection to the past. <br /> <br />Ed Nickels <br />Mr. Nickels, President of the University City’s Historical Society, said that University City <br />has history that lives within our community. He encouraged Council to preserve the history <br />of what E G. Lewis saw a hundred years ago, a farm community. <br /> <br />Bill Meyer <br />Mr. Meyer is a neighbor to the Sutter- Meyer farmhouse, spoke of the history of the house <br />and the need to preserve it. <br /> <br />Elsie Glickert <br />Ms. Glickert said that this neighborhood is the only section of University City that does not <br />have a park. She felt that the history surrounding this house has a lot of educational <br />opportunities. <br /> <br />Ralph Bowser <br />Mr. Bowser, past President of the University City’s Historical Society said that he had <br />previously passed out his statement to the Council. He was opposed to turning the Sutter- <br />Meyer farmhouse into a historical house as evident by other historical places closing due <br />to lack of interest. <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Mr. Wagner asked about the fund raisers planned, how much the Society anticipated <br />would be needed each year, and if the Society would expect anything from the City other <br />than a lease. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams stated the lease must have options for the City to opt out of the lease if the <br />Sutter-Meyer Society is unable to raise enough funds to maintain the farmhouse. <br /> <br />Ms. Brot gave examples of how other communities preserved their historical places. <br /> <br />Mr. Price asked about the feasibility of tying it into the Parks’ system. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner and Mr. Sharpe Jr. said they were in favor of the preservation of the Sutter- <br />Meyer farmhouse but would like more time allotted for discussion. Mayor Adams stated all <br />the criteria he felt needed to be in place first. Ms. Ricci abstained until receiving Council’s <br />agreement that she did not have a conflict of interest. Ms. Brot, Mr. Glickert and Mr. Price <br />were in favor of moving forward. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
