<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES OF UNIVERSITY CITY COUNCIL <br />STUDY SESSION <br />May 07, 2007 <br /> <br /> <br />The Council Study Session, held in the Chambers of the City Hall, on Monday, May 7, 2007, <br />was called to order by Mayor Adams at 5:30 p.m. In addition to Mayor Adams, the following <br />members of the Council were present: <br /> Mr. Robert Wagner <br /> Mr. Arthur Sharpe, Jr. <br /> Ms. Stefany Brot <br /> Mr. Michael Glickert <br /> Mr. Byron Price <br /> Ms. Lynn Ricci <br /> <br />Also present was City Manager Ms. Julie Feier. <br /> <br />The Study Session agenda was planned for the discussion of University City’s Commission <br />for Access and Local Original Programming (CALOP). <br /> <br />Mr. Ed Nickels, chair of CALOP, presented CALOP’s mission and goals. Its mission <br />statement is to strive “to fund and facilitate cultural and educational programs for broadcast <br />on regional cable channels and other media, focused first on the needs of our citizens and <br />the rich heritage and cultural contributions of our diverse city and region.” <br /> <br />Mr. Nickels sees CALOP as the visual Public Relations arm of University City. It awards <br />grants to film makers on various topics. Currently this organization has awarded grants for <br />the following film topics: <br />1. Veterans and their families in University City’s region <br />2. Documentary on the history of movie theaters in St. Louis <br />3. History of the River DesPeres <br />4. Inside look of commune life in University City’s region <br />5. Documentary on the St. Ferdinand Shrine in Florissant <br />6. “Johnnie Be Good” a story of Johnnie Johnson <br />7. Oral Histories – interviews of past and present residents of U.City, showing various <br />time periods in University City <br />8. Documentation of the archeological dig outside the Sutter-Meyer farmhouse, U.City’s <br />oldest standing home. <br /> <br />Films recently completed or near completion are: <br />1. Documentary on U.City’s Centennial Celebration <br />2. “Silver Spurs” group home for the emotionally disturbed <br />3. “William Clark” of the Lewis and Clark Expedition <br /> <br />Mr. Nickels said that CALOP has elected to return to the City for assistance in order to better <br />facilitate grants and payments. Each member of CALOP will also be the liaison between one <br />Grantee and the Commission. Mr. Nickels also said that CALOP is working with the City to <br />find a permanent place to store their master films, raw footage, film tapes and other important <br />historical documents. CALOP will also develop an orientation book on their policies and <br />procedures to be given to present and future members. It is also CALOP’s goal to work with <br />other University City’s commissions and organizations in filming the proposed #15 Princeton <br /> <br />
