<br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES OF UNIVERSITY CITY COUNCIL <br />STUDY SESSION <br />April 16, 2007 <br /> <br />The Council Study Session, held in the Chambers of the City Hall, on Monday, April 16, 2007, <br />was called to order by Mayor Adams at 5:30 p.m. In addition to Mayor Adams, the following <br />members of the Council were present: <br /> Mr. Robert Wagner <br /> Mr. Arthur Sharpe, Jr. <br /> Ms. Stefany Brot <br /> Mr. Michael Glickert <br /> Mr. Byron Price <br /> Ms. Lynn Ricci <br /> <br />Also present were City Manager Ms. Julie Feier and representatives of the Sutter-Meyer <br />Society. <br /> <br />The Study Session agenda was planned for the discussion of the future of the historic Sutter- <br />Meyer farmhouse and the City’s role. <br /> <br />Mr. Price and Ms. Brot requested the meeting and took the lead. <br /> <br />Ms. Brot gave a brief description of what she had planned to cover at this Study session. <br />1. Why the Sutter-Meyer Society was formed <br />2. The importance of the historic farmhouse to University City <br />3. The Society’s Incorporation and its 501C status <br />4. Consensus of Council concerning the Sutter-Meyer Society’s proposal, to proceed with <br />the preservation of the Sutter-Meyer farmhouse. <br /> <br />As a representative of the Sutter-Meyer Society. Ms. Shelly Welsch spoke on the Society’s <br />purpose and goals. She provided a folder with material relating to the Sutter-Meyer <br />farmhouse. Ms. Welsch gave a brief history of the historic farmhouse and talked about the <br />formation of the Sutter-Meyer Society in September 2006. She had members of the Sutter- <br />Meyer Society present stand up for introduction. She presented the proposal of the <br />Societyfor its: <br />1. Obtaining a lease of the Sutter-Meyer historic farmhouse from the City <br />2. Raising funds for its restoration and renovation <br />3. Obtaining a 501C-3 status <br />4. Creating a strategic plan for the direction of the historic Sutter-Meyer house. <br />5. Using the farmhouse as an educational tool to teach the history of University City <br />through permanent displays and rotating exhibits on the City’s history. <br />Ms. Welsch gave some of the Society’s vision <br />1. Serving as a Sutter-Meyer farmhouse museum <br />2. Receiving positive publicity from the archeological dig <br />3. Promoting aneducational partnership with the University City schools <br />4. Encouraging neighborhood involvement <br />5. Providing lectures on University City’s history to visitors <br /> <br />CITIZEN COMMENTS <br />Richard Dockett, <br />Mr. Dockett said that the Sutter-Meyer farmhouse represents the cradle of civilization of <br />University City. He encouraged Council to consider working with the Society to bring the <br />Sutter-Meyer farmhouse to life. <br /> <br />
