To: Honorable Mayor Adams and City Council From: Julie Feier, City Manager Date: August 3, 2007 Subject: Weekly Update City Police Department (UCPD) received its fourth award On July 27, the University and third re-accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The awards were presented to Captain Carol Jackson and Chief Charles Adams during the Commission’s summer conference. The five-day public re- accreditation process occurs every three years. It includes an on-site inspection of UCPD’s facilities, policies and procedures. For the third consecutive time, the Department has complied with the mandatory 446 standards applicable to its agency category. The Law Enforcement Accreditation Program was the first credentialing program established by CALEA which formed in 1984. It was originally developed to address a need to enhance law enforcement as a profession and to improve law enforcement efforts. That mission continues today. The program is open to all law enforcement agencies, internationally. Accreditation provides systemic internal review and assessment, and adjustments to meet internationally accepted standards. CALEA’s accreditation program requires agency compliance with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services. The Park Commission voted to maintain the current policy regarding non-resident daily pool admittance at their July meeting. The Commission did not recommend a change; therefore, the issue will not come before Council. golf learning center In response to the proposal Mr. Fields prepared a packet for distribution to Council.
