Council Chambers- <br />th <br />5 Floor, City Hall. <br /> <br />Tuesday, November 27, 2007 <br /> from 7 to 8:30 pm, Community Development <br />? <br />Department Director Lehman Walker and his senior planning staff will explain <br />how the city plans and changes its physical development and the tools it can use <br />to realize the community’s vision for itself. This is a must-hear presentation to <br />anyone interested in why and how development happens or doesn’t in a city and <br />what is on the horizon for our City in the coming years. EOC Room-City Hall, basement level. <br /> <br />Metro held a pre-construction meeting last week on the project to complete the <br />Ackert Walkway <br />pedestrian overpass that connects the WU Danforth Campus to the . <br />Much of the heavy construction will occur at night, and will require nightly closures of <br />Forest Park Parkway from Big Bend to Skinker, 7:00 pm until 5:00 am for two 5-day <br />periods (8/12-8/17) and (8/19-8/24). The first phase began on August 6 and there have <br />been some evening lane restrictions on the Parkway during this first week of <br />construction (8/6-8/10). Metro and its contractor, Tarlton Construction, put up some <br />signage on the Parkway to alert motorist of the closures. Scheduled completion of the <br />first phase of construction is August 24 and additional work will continue through mid- <br />October. Construction lights will be required for the evening work and construction noise <br />should be anticipated. <br /> <br />The 560 Trinity Building (formerly Webster's Community Music School) <br /> remains a <br />community concert venue, and is available for rental of the 1100 seat concert hall. The music <br />school will host a fundraiser "10-Piano Extravaganza" with Conductor Leonard Flatkin <br />on Oct. 28, 2007 at 7:00 pm to kick-off the grand reopening of the facility. As neighbors <br />of WU, University City residents will receive a $10 discount. <br /> <br />Kiwanis Club <br />In the past month, a new chapter has started in University City and is <br />seeking new members. Kiwanis is a well-renowned service organization that enhances <br />the community through volunteerism and support of children. It will have service <br />projects and raise funds for different programs aimed directly as improving the health, <br />welfare and well-being of children in the community.
