ORDINANCE NO. <br /> <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8.12 OF THE UNIVERSITY <br />CITY MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO GARBAGE COLLECTION AND <br />DISPOSAL, BY REPEALING SECTION 8.12.200 THEREOF, RELATING <br />TO THE SCHEDULE OF REFUSE COLLECTION CHARGES, AND <br />ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS <br />“SECTION 8.12.200 SCHEDULE OF REFUSE COLLECTION <br />CHARGES,” THEREBY AMENDING SAID SECTION SO AS TO <br />INCREASE MONTHLY REFUSE RATES EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, <br />2007, TO COVER THE COST OF PROVIDING THE SERVICES; <br />CONTAINING SAVINGS, SEVERABILITY, AND PROVIDING A <br />PENALTY. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, <br /> <br />MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. Chapter 8.12 of the University City Municipal Code, relating to <br />garbage collection and disposal, is hereby amended by repealing Section 8.12.200 <br />thereof, relating to the schedule of refuse collection charges, and enacting in lieu thereof a <br />new section to be known as “Section 8.12.200 Schedule of refuse collection charges,” <br />thereby amending said section so as to increase monthly rates effective September 1, <br />2007, to cover the cost of providing services; so that said section as so amended, shall <br />read as follows: <br /> <br /> 8.12.200 Schedule of refuse collection charges. <br /> <br /> A. Definitions. As used in this section: <br /> <br /> “Cart” means a reusable, portable container with the capacity of sixty (60) to one <br />hundred (100) gallons, complete with wheels, handles, hinged, tight fitting lid, and <br />compatible with existing city equipment for mechanical lift and dump. <br /> <br /> “Mechanical Box” means a reusable, stationary container with capacity of one and <br />one-half cubic yards or greater, and compatible with existing city equipment for mechanical <br />lift and dump. <br /> <br />B. Schedule of refuse rates. For the purpose of defraying the expense of the <br />city for the collection of garbage, trash, litter and rubbish, as provided in this <br />chapter, the owners of certain real property within the city shall pay a service <br />charge based on the following schedule.
