Council Agenda Item Cover

___________________________________________________________

MEETING DATE:
September 24, 2007
AGENDA SECTION:
City Manager’s Report

48-Gallon Single Stream Recycling Containers

PW Director Evelyn Shields-Benford is here this evening to announce the kick off of the
2008 Single Stream Recycling Program. In order to do so we will need to purchase
substantially more carts than originally planned for. The savings in automating will cover the

cost of the additional carts.Armor provided the best value bid on the 48-gallon carts in May
2007, at a unit cost of $41.83 per cart. Therefore, we selected the Armor 48-gallon carts for
city-wide implementation. For the first phase, the City purchased 3,000 carts at a total cost
of $125,490. Additional recycling carts are now needed to expand the Single Stream
Recycling Program city-wide. City-wide single-stream recycling implementation is expected
to begin this fall and be completed by spring 2008.

Armor Equipment provided a price break on the May 2007 per unit price based on volume for
the additional 9,800 carts. The unit price was reduced from $41.83 per cart to $41.11 per
cart. The total cost of the 9800 recycling carts is $402,878.

COMPANY CONTAINER SIZE UNIT PRICE QTY. If
you have any recommendations for Council to discuss, I would request you bring them to the
floor or approve the objectives as presented.

I-1-a
September 24, 2007
