UNIVERSITY CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION ON PROPOSITION K <br /> <br />WHEREAS: The City Council has passed an ordinance enabling a city-wide election that would allow a lA <br />cent sales tax to be levied in support of Heman Park Swimming Pool, Fitness Center, and Recreation Center <br />improvements and expansion, identifying it as Proposition K, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: Proposition K will appear on the November 5, 2002 ballot in University City, that would <br />provide $5 Million for capital improvements, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS: The City Council fully supports Proposition K and feels it is vital to solicit public confidence <br />before the election takes place, and to advise the public of the nature of the critically needed repairs and <br />capital improvements that would take place. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That if Proposition K is approved, the Heman Pool renovation <br />construction shall move forward, beginning in Fall 2003, encompassing but not limited to the following: <br /> <br />· Drains, pumps, filtration and walls shall be replaced or renovated <br />· Retention of all 12 lap lanes <br />· Retention and improvement of Kiddie Pool <br />· Improvement of locker rooms and showers <br />· Added deck lighting, to allow for evening use <br />· Added security inside and outside pool area <br />· Maintenance of historic character of building and pool, including footprint and architecture <br />· Other family oriented improvements requested by wide public consensus <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the renovation and expansion of the Fitness Center shall be the subject <br />of numerous public surveys, focus groups, town hall meeting and City Council public heatings to gain citizen <br />input, for a period of approximately five(5) months following voter approval, ending before May 2003, and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the renovation and expansion of the Recreation Center shall be the <br />subject of numerous public surveys, focus groups, town hall meetings and City Council public hearings to <br />gain citizen input, for a period of approximately nine (9) months following voter approval, ending before <br />September 2003, and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the purpose of these public meetings shall be to solicit and define the <br />citizen desired components of the renovation and expansion of the Pool, Fitness Center, and Recreation <br />Center, and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That Final Design Drawings shall not be completed until the developed <br />design concept is reviewed by both the Parks Commission and the Proposition K Citizens Committee, and <br />formally ratified by the City Council. <br /> <br /> The motion to adopt was moved by~2ou~ncilmember ~"~ , <br /> seconded by Councilmember m,ta-J-d/q-~".~..x-~ , and a roll call vote resulted as follows: <br /> <br /> NAYS: ~ . . -- <br /> The Resolution carded bt~ <br /> <br /> ...
