<br /> <br /> <br />To: Honorable Mayor Adams and City Council <br /> <br />From: Julie Feier, City Manager <br /> <br />Date: November 16, 2007 <br /> <br />Subject: Weekly Update <br /> <br /> <br />Outstanding Local <br />Today, U-City in Bloom and the City of University City accepted an <br />Government Award <br />from the East West Gateway Council of Governments for its <br />public-private partnership in beautifying the City. U City in Bloom Founders, Susan <br />Hopper (in from NY) and Jane Schaefer, Mary Ann Shaw, Director along with members <br />of the Board of Directors, several year-round gardeners, volunteers, Ewald Winkler, the <br />City’s Park Maintenance Supervisor, and other City officials attended the Awards <br />ceremony. Special thanks to Petree Eastman for preparation of the award application <br />and photo display board. University City was represented well at the banquet. <br /> <br />University City School District <br />The is asking parents, residents, business leaders and <br />Parent- <br />other stakeholders in U City to become a member of its newly established <br />Community Advisory Council <br />. The Council will meet for the first time on Thursday, <br />November 29 at 6 PM at the McNair Administration Building at 8136 Groby Road. The <br />Council will meet 2 to 3 times per year to monitor the progress the District is making <br />towards meeting the goals established in its Comprehensive School Improvement Plan <br />(“CSIP”). The CSIP sets forth how the District intends to improve academic <br />achievement, attract and retain highly qualified staff, provide safe and secure schools, <br />improve District governance and engage the community. For more information, call <br />290-4016. <br /> <br />th <br />On Monday, November 19 at 6:30 pm, City Council members will meet with School <br />collaborate in improving our local public schools. <br />District officials in an effort to The <br />meeting is to allow Council members to ask questions of District staff to have a better <br />understanding of the District’s plans and programs intended to improve the academic <br />achievement of all students. They will also discuss several joint initiatives that staff and <br />Council forwarded to the District in hopes of further collaboration. Council and the <br />School Board will meet jointly in December in the District Board Room. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
