1. She would like a rotation within the areas of University City in regard to leaf pick-up.
She stated that every year the east end of University City had the first week of leaf pick-
up and the leaves had not really begun to fall yet. Ms. Glickert suggested that next year
it start with the west end.
2. The recycling carts, now being required, are to be placed at the street curb and not
the alleys where their trash is picked up. Ms. Glickert said that with terraced lawns and
no driveways, it is hard for residents to roll the big carts to the street curb. She would
like to see the recyclables picked up in the alleys as previously done.
3. Ms. Glickert complained that she read in the newspaper that University City’s Golf
Course in Ruth Park was being traded to Clayton for $30,000. She objected to the fact
that every member of Clayton’s Community Center would have residential privileges to
the Ruth Park Golf Course.

Eric Klein, 1150 Swarthmore Lane
Mr. Klein was present to speak on several issues:
1. Derelict cars. These cars were ticketed by the police department but there wasn’t
any action thereafter to remove these cars when they continued to remain.
st
2. Dangerous shrub on corner of 81 and Blancha. Mr. Klein stated that the driver’s
st
view was obstructed by the shrub when pulling out of Blancha to go left onto 81 Street.
3. Mr. Klein suggested repealing the free golf rates for the six hundred City and School
District employees. He stated that if ten percent of the employees use the golf course
that is sixty people who are not paying. He thought a reduced rate would be fair but not
free and this would help produce money to remove deficit budget the City faces with
operating the golf course.

M. COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mr. Glickert commended the Loop being named as one of the top 10 streets in University
States; further, he asked the City Manager and Council to consider a vendor
appreciation night for all University City vendors in appreciation of their efforts in making
University City viable.
Mr. Glickert asked the City Manager to send out another letter concerning Ruth Park
Golf Course that retracts information in an earlier letter stating “Nationwide, cities are
selling their municipal golf courses to eliminate the subsidy and to add tax income
(locally, Normandy Golf Course).” Mr. Glickert stated that Normandy Golf Course is
owned by fourteen owners and is subcontracted out to a golf contracting company.
Lastly, Mr. Glickert pointed out that Normandy Golf Course is spelled Normandie.

Ms. Brot asked about the Canine Patrol police force division. She stated that the total
cost to start the unit would be $13,235. She was surprised that the Loop Business
District only allotted a contribution of $500. Ms. Brot wanted to know if U City would still
be able to have this Canine force. Ms. Feier said that the Loop Business District would
continue to have fund raising events for it.
th
Ms. Brot encouraged all to attend the October 28 celebration at the Grand Opening of
560 Trinity – new home for the Washington University Musical Department. This Ten
Piano Extravaganza program would be under the direction of Leonard Slatkin, the St.
Louis Symphony’s former conductor of many years.

Mr. Sharpe, Jr. continued to express his opposition to the Marian Hall that will house
both boys and girls.
