some of the bills could be forgiven. Ms. Straatman said the City had not addressed it
progressively for a long time, so many of the bills just continued to get larger.
M. COUNCIL COMMENTS
Ms. Brot said she attended a program called “First Suburbs” which offers a low cost loan
program for people in the Kansas City area, who have small homes and want to remain
in the community with a modernized home. A second meeting was organized by the St.
Louis County Economic Council to discuss and analyze how this program would work in
helping people modernize their small homes. The group suggested having low-interest
loans up to $75,000. If anyone is interested in attending the next meeting, please
th
contact her. Ms. Brot also stated that anyone wanting to vote in the April 8 election
needs to register by March 1. She then reminded Council and residents of the pre-filed
bills in Jefferson City and the need to let our representatives know how we feel. Lastly
she hoped everyone would be joining her at the dedication of the Harriet Woods Civic
Plaza and the renaming of University City Post Office to the Harriett Woods Post Office
on February 9 at 560 Trinity Building, the new location of the Music Department of
Washington University.
Mr. Glickert stated that he emailed the City Manager about the litter on Vernon Avenue
between Skinker and Westgate. It was agreed that it was deplorable and University City
crew cleaned it up. Within two weeks, it again has the same appearance, strewn with
litter. Midland Avenue has the same appearance. Mr. Glickert asked to City Manager to
compose a letter to Mr. Earls of MoDOT to clean up the County arterials, as they are
now being traveled more and thus more litter.
Mr. Price agreed that residents should pay their trash bills but would like the City to
move more cautiously and review each situation and determine from these, where the
City needs to go. He felt some revenue collection was more than what the City had
previously.
Mr. Sharpe, Jr. said that all citizens will have a test on February 5, which they can pass
by voting for their candidate selection for the next Presidential election.
Mayor Adams announced the next Council date as February 12, Study Session at 5:30
P.M. to discuss parking, followed by Council Regular Session at 6:30.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m. Mr. Price moved to go into executive session for
RSMo 610.021, (1) and (2) legal and real estate, was seconded by Mr. Sharpe, Jr. and was
approved unanimously.
Roll Call vote:
Ayes: Mr. Price, Ms. Ricci, Mr. Wagner, Ms. Brot, Mr. Price and Mayor Adams.
Nays: None
Joyce Pumm
City Clerk
