Council Agenda Item Cover
_________________________________________________________________
MEETING DATE:
February 25, 2008
AGENDA ITEM TITLE:
Information Technology Assessment Contract
AGENDA SECTION:
Consent
CAN THIS ITEM BE RESCHEDULED? :
No
BACKGROUND REVIEW:
The City Manager, Deputy City Manager and Information
Technology (IT) Director prepared a request for proposal for an IT Organizational and
Needs Assessment. The goal of the assessment is to provide a holistic review of how
well the City is utilizing and applying technology, personnel and other additional
resources for existing and future programs and projects that may be identified through
strategic planning. Other areas to be reviewed are network topology, applications,
training and past and future budgeting.
The plan is to interview key City stakeholders including Council, Administration,
Department Directors, key users and all technology staff. Topics will include staff’s
understanding of technology applications, how current service/support needs are being
met and an understanding of future needs. Technology use will be analyzed
organization-wide to determine any efficiencies/deficiencies in management and
organization. The consultant will prepare a finalized document including
recommendations for improvement. The end result will be an objective outside
viewpoint which will be better able to describe the technology environment of the City
so that all parties making decisions on functions, funding, services and projects can
intelligently and conscientiously assign resources that are appropriate and adequate.
The review team, headed by Janet Watson, interviewed all three consultants
responding to the RFP. The proposals are as follows:
PTI……………………………………………….$25,000
FPOV……………………………………………$15,000
River City Technology Group………………… $12,500
