Phase 1: which addressed the immediate needs of the pool and the fitness <br />center. <br /> <br />Phase 2: which addressed the entire recreation center including the fitness <br />center and the existing soccer facility. It will also address citizen input regarding <br />future facilities such as a new indoor pool, indoor tennis, etc. as part of the long <br />term strategic master plan. <br /> <br />Mr. Winters outlined their methodology which consisted of citizen surveys, focus <br />groups, advocacy groups (organizations that participate in or run programs), <br />letters and emails from citizens, Parks & Recreation staff input and three Public <br />Hearings. <br /> <br />He specified the Proposition K Committees goals which were: <br /> <br />1. to <br />2. to <br />3. to <br />4. to <br />5. to <br />6. to <br />7. <br /> <br />)reserve the quality and character of the pool as originally designed. <br />)reserve the family atmosphere of the pool <br />)rovide equal access to all areas of the facility <br />)rovide equal services to all <br />)rovide areas for different age groups to enjoy the pool <br />)rovide areas of the pool for specific activities that include families with <br /> <br />non-swimming children, teaching water aerobics, competitive swimming <br />practice, lap swimming and diving. <br /> <br />Each Councilperson congratulated the Prop K Committee for the clarity and <br />conciseness of the presentation and for the hard work that the members put into <br />the report. Since the Councilmembers had had an opportunity to review the <br />recommendations, a discussion followed about issues of concern to citizens such <br />as access for the physically challenged, extended hours, lighting the pool, <br />climate control for the soccer area, water slides and other amenities. Additional <br />details were provided by Mr. Winters and other Committee members (Mary Hart, <br />Jen Jensen, Caryn St. Clair and Henry Berry). <br /> <br />It was the sense of the Council that they were accumulating sufficient information <br />to make decisions on the recommendations at the Saturday, May 2, 2003 study <br />session. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams adjourned the meeting at 8:43 p.m. <br /> <br />Leisha Forsythe <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
