Session 1887 MINUTES OF THE UNIVERSITY CITY COUNCIL June 2,2003 At a special budget meeting of the City Council of University City held in the Council Chambers of City Hall, on Monday, June 2, 2003, Mayor Joseph Adams called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. In addition to the Mayor, the following members of Council were present: Ms. Cassandra Colquitt Mr. Wayne Munkel Mr. Robert Wagner Mr. Larry Lieberman Ms. Shelley Welsch Mr. Arthur Sharpe, Jr. Also present was the City Manager, Mr. Frank Ollendorff. AGENDA - CONCLUSION OF BUDGET STUDY ITEMS: Proposed Changesin Benefits: Mr. Ollendorff informed the Council of the Non-uniformed Employee's Retirement Plan Pension Board's recommendation to increase the base formula over a period of two years: to1.35% this year and then to 1.40% next year. This figured against the final average compensation for participants retiring after the effective date of the change. Secondly, they recommend increasing the monthly benefit of current retired participants by $20. These two changes will not incur any costs to the pension fund. Sick Leave Benefit: Mr. Ollendorff explained the City's current sick leave policy and family medical leave act policy. A few Councilmembers were concerned with the City's definition of maternity leave as a sickness. Mr. Ollendorff felt it was important that employees plan and wisely use their sick leave for events such as this and recommended no changes to the current policy. Ms. Colquitt and Ms. Welsch asked that Mr. Ollendorff continue to study this issue. They felt strongly that maternity leave should be dealt with separately from the sick leave policy and that employees, male and female, be given additional benefits to help attract and retain their employment.
