Notes from the Environmental Working Group <br />February 5, 2015 (revised February 17, 2015) <br /> <br />Participants: <br />Patricia McQueen <br />Ed Schmidt <br />Tim Michels <br />Richard Wesenberg <br />Stephen Myers <br />Dianne Benjamin <br />Linda Ballard <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Tree Population <br />Key Issue Goals <br /> <br />Maintain healthy population of trees <br /> <br />Increase diversity of population to include edible fruit trees and nut bearing trees. <br /> <br />Involve the public/citizens and create resources to maintain and increase the <br />population of trees. <br /> <br />Include Ruth Park Woods as part of the tree population. <br /> <br />Build Ecological vision and values about trees in our community. <br /> <br />Develop biomass production from tree branches and leaves as an alternative <br />energy source. <br /> <br />Actions and Solutions <br /> <br />Update current tree census and keep update current. <br /> <br />Provide funding to keep and maintain an urban arborist. <br /> <br />Review, revise, and enforce tree ordinance policy for public, commercial and <br />residential properties. <br /> <br />Require or strongly recommend the replacement of trees with native or fruit/nut <br />bearing species. <br /> <br />Plant low maintenance shade trees and fruit & nut bearing trees in trails, public <br />walkways, bike paths, public parks, public school grounds, vacated properties (i.e. <br />Wilson Ave flood plain), Olive Blvd. and parking lots. <br /> <br />Implement the Ruth Park Woods master plan. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />River des Peres and Other Waterways <br />Key Issue Goals <br /> <br />Turn River des Peres into an asset not a problem. <br /> <br />Make River des Peres a community amenity. <br /> <br />Integrate River des Peres with biking and hiking trails. <br /> <br />
