Mary HartUniversity City Senior Response Team <br />Congratulations to and the on the <br />fabulous Senior Lifestyle and Resource Expo held on Tuesday at Centennial Commons! <br />There were so many vendors available to assist seniors from home healthcare, to <br />reverse mortgages, to errand services, to healthcare providers, to affordable funeral <br />services, to transportation services, volunteer opportunities, to assisted living and <br />nursing home facilities, that the event was a huge success. If you missed it, the <br />Assistant City Manager, Petree Eastman has materials from nearly all the vendors <br />available at her office on the second floor of City Hall, or you can call her at 505-8535 to <br />direct you to the service providers present at the Expo. <br /> <br />Municipal Park Grant <br />University City tops the list of recipients from St. Louis County <br />since the inception of the grant program. Since 2000, of the 14 municipalities receiving <br />$1,124,327 <br />grants in District 5, University City received the most at for six grants. Most <br />grants totals were well under $500,000. Webster Groves received the second highest <br />amount of grants at $900,000. The first four grant monies the City received over the <br />years went to building a fitness area in Heman Park Rec Center, replacing tennis <br />courts, rehabilitating the indoor soccer facility and funded the playground and play <br />equipment at Kaufman Park. Last year’s grant paid for installing field lighting in Heman <br />Park. This year’s grant will fund the driving range and teaching center at Ruth Park Golf <br />Course. Congratulations to Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, Nancy <br />MacCartney, on her excellent grant writing skills! <br /> <br />rd <br />St. Louis Women’s Chorale <br />This Saturday May 3 The (SLWC) will present the Faces <br />of St. Louis concert at 8 pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 6800 Washington Avenue in <br />University City. It will feature the work premiere of “ A Love Supreme” by Barbara <br />Harbach, based on a poem by Cheryl Walker and performed by the SLWC and the <br />nd <br />Equinox Chamber Players. The night before (May 2), the SLWC will perform at <br />Bonhomme Presbyterian Church, 14820 Conway Road in Chesterfield featuring the <br />world premiere of “Seasons of Singing” by Gay Holmes Spears. Tickets are $20 for <br />adults; $18 for seniors and $15 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door of <br />either event or online at www.stlwomenschorale.org. The SLWC is not a religious <br />organization. <br /> <br />Friends of the LibraryTrivia Night <br />Back by popular demand! The will present on <br />Saturday, May 17 at 6:30 PM. Tables for 8 are $160, or come by yourself and meet new <br />friends. An individual admission is $20. Prizes, great food, and fun are promised. Trivia <br />Night is a fundraiser to support Friends’ programs for the library. There will be a $200 <br />cash prize for the winning table as well as 10 non-monetary prizes for tables winning the <br />quick-answer competitions held while results from each round are tallied. If you would <br />rather be any place but a trivia night, the Friends encourage you to make a $20 <br />donation for the privilege of not having to participate!
