cars and try public transportation to help save money, conserve fuel, and reduce the
environmental impact of everyday commuting. It is estimated that each year, public
transportation use in the U.S. saves 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline-almost 4 million
gallons of gasoline per day, and reduces the nation's carbon emissions by 37 million
metric tons annually. This year, Metro will celebrate Dump the Pump Day by offering a
free one-day pass for Thursday, June 19. With gas prices at record highs, this year's
Dump the Pump Day presents an excellent opportunity for commuters to leave their
cars at home, try Metro for free, and see how public transportation can be an option in
their everyday lives. The free one-day pass is valid on June 19 only, and lets
commuters try Metro Bus and Metro Link for the entire day. Interested individuals can
get their free one-day pass from Metro by e-mailing Metro at
customerservice@metrostlouis.org or calling (314) 982-1400, ext. 1668.
