educational
campaign. Our goal is to raise approximately $100,000. Therefore, we
are asking each municipality to consider donating up to 20 cents per capita. Private
funds are also being raised to finance an advocacy campaign. The League information
is included as an attachment.
Delmar Resurfacing and Parking in the Loop
:

We met with the County on Thursday to discuss when the micro-surfacing would occur
on Delmar in the Loop. We had requested that it occur after business hours. They
could not delay the micro-surfacing until after 1 AM because the material will not cure
properly at prolonged night colder temperatures meaning that the street would not be
ready to open for morning rush hours. They chose Sunday and Monday night in
cooperation with our Police Dept. because Tues –Sat are the busiest nights in the Loop.

The attached notice will be delivered to residents & property owners beginning today.
The County's approach seems reasonable. At all times, Delmar will be open to two-way
traffic, however, to accomplish that, there will be no parking for two nights. All parking
lots, driveways, crosswalks and the city-parking garage will be made accessible so that
vehicles can park while the work is being performed on those two nights.

Rescheduled Flea Market is still on!
As you know, the Flea Market originally
scheduled for last Saturday was cancelled in expectation of Hurricane Ike coming
through. Despite the mess at Centennial Commons due to Ike, the rescheduled Flea
Market is still on and will be held at the Commons/Heman Park Swimming Pool parking
th
lot from 8 am to 2 pm this Saturday, Sept 20. If it should rain, it will be held inside
Centennial Commons on the soccer turf.

National Public Lands Day
:

National Public Lands Day
The Green Center invites you to come celebrate on
Saturday, September 27, from 9 am to noon, local volunteers will roll up their sleeves
and devote their day to removing invasive Euonymus (winter creeper vine), and litter
along a stretch of the River des Peres in University City’s Ruth Park Woods. There will
be a registration table located at McKnight Road and Crixdale Lane, where volunteers
can sign up, collect their tools, and join the team.

While this special cleanup is part of National Public Lands Day, an annual event that
gives Americans across the country a chance to give back to the lands they use for
recreation. The cleanup in Ruth Park Woods is part of The Green Center’s and River
des Peres Watershed Coalition’s ongoing work to restore this urban, woodland jewel by
removing some of its greatest threats—invasive plant species and garbage.

Upcoming Meetings and Events:
Saturday, Sept. 20: 8:30 AM Full Day Council Retreat/Goal Setting
in the Centennial Commons Board Room
Monday, Sept. 22: 5:30 PM Follow Up Study Session Council
re Rules and Procedures
Monday, Sept. 22: 6:30 PM Council Meeting
