<br />Meeting Minutes – University City Green Practices Committee <br />September 10, 2008 <br />nd <br />Location: University City Hall, 2 Floor Conference Room <br />Attendees: Committee Members – Jerry Breakstone, Donna Leach-Heimos, Matthew <br />Malten, Tim Michels, Neville Rapp, Lois Sechrist,. Staff Liaison – Petree Eastman, <br />Assistant City Manager. <br />Absent: Daniel Lehocky, Robert Wagner <br />1.The minutes of the August 14 meeting were approved. <br />2.Lengthy discussion on mission statement, vision, goals. Brainstorming ideas: <br />Healthier built environment/ define sustainability/ move to 100% renewable sources/ <br />movement towards zero waste/ restorative/ reduce or eliminate auto dependency/ <br />decrease climate change/ education/ wise land use policy/ density/ eliminate artificial <br />pesticides, synthetics/ net exporters of good things (energy, clean water)/ full <br />inclusion in green practices, outreach/ Triple Bottom Line: environmental, social, <br />financial/ return on investment/ fun, aesthetic, pleasing/ stewardship/ value <br />externalities/ biomimicry/ resources/ physical environment/ metrics <br />3.Evolution of vision statement. Matthew will edit and issue to the group. <br />a.University City is a community that continually improves our care for our <br />people, our environment and our economy. <br />b.University City recognizes that the health of our community depends on <br />continually improving our care for our people, our environment and our <br />economy. <br />c.Presently the health of these systems has been compromised and we need to <br />work together to restore these systems to full sustainability. <br />4.Mission, Vision, Goals: <br />d.Mission statement: Expresses “Why” <br />e.Vision statement: “What” <br />f.Goal statement(s): “How” <br />5.Petree issued the “Pilot Biodiesel Project – Draft Implementation Plan” report for <br />members to read on their own. <br />6.Petree gave an update on the Request for Proposal for five green homes in the 6600 <br />blocks of Bartmer and Crest. The project is also an assignment for a joint studies <br />architecture/ law/ planning class at Washington University/ St. Louis University. <br />7.Next meeting will be October 8, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Preliminary agenda: <br />a.Finalize mission, vision, high level goal statements <br />b.Review assignments and handouts from 9/10 meeting (Clayton and Madison, <br />WI documents) <br />c.Internet links and/ or PDF files will be provided in advance of the next <br />meeting for additional documents from Matthew and Neville. <br />
