<br />To: Honorable Mayor Adams and Council <br />From: Julie Feier, City Manager <br />Date: January 30 2009 <br />Subject: Weekly Update <br />Subsequent to the City Council’s adoption of the Parks Master Plan Monday, <br />Washington University committed to financially supporting our request for <br />assistance in the next phase of our park planning process. <br /> The focus will be on the <br />three parks in the Parkview Gardens neighborhood, Metcalfe, Ackert and Eastgate <br />Parks. Development of the plan will require resources from City staff. However, no <br />funding from the City is needed. We are excited to be working with H3, led by John Hoal <br />who has an impressive portfolio including development of the Forest Park Master Plan. <br />Additional community involvement will include input from a diverse group of <br />stakeholders with additional opportunities for public engagement. The Parkview <br />Gardens Neighborhood Association should also be thanked for their financial <br />contribution as well as their ongoing commitment to the project. <br />Jewels in <br />We have some exciting new independent businesses coming to the Loop. <br />the Loop <br /> will soon be filling the storefront at 6513 Delmar, previously the Red Sea. The <br />father and son owned business will sell as well as repair jewelry and watches. There will <br />also be a new restaurant at 6501 Delmar serving Syrian cuisine in the site previously <br />Ranoush <br />held by Saleem’s. We look forward to opening and bringing a Syrian flair to <br />Brandt’s <br />the Loop. To finish off the block, will be expanding and renovating in their <br />current location. <br />ambulances <br />One of our was damaged Sunday at the intersection of McKnight and <br />Delmar when a driver swerved around halted traffic in the intersection and struck the <br />ambulance in route to the west end of town. We are currently using a Clayton <br />ambulance until ours is repaired. The individual who struck the ambulance was ticketed <br />Fire House <br />for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. No one was seriously injured. <br />#1 (FH1) will be closed <br /> for a week while the final work is done to the bay floors. FH1 <br />will reopen on Wednesday, February 4 at 7 AM. In the interim all trucks and personnel <br />will be moved to FH2. The new ambulance will arrive February 3 and be in service <br />within two weeks. <br />Community Meeting for Flood Victims-Next Steps <br />On February 26 at 6:30 PM, the City will host a Community Meeting to share the latest <br />developments for long-term flood protection along the River des Peres. The meeting will <br />be held at the Heman Park Community Center, 975 Pennsylvania. City Staff will <br /> <br />
