BILL 9019 – An ordinance amending changing the name of part of
Harvard Avenue to Sgt. CITIZEN COMMENTS
David Heimos, 7700 Amherst
Mr. Heimos was present to speak on a decline in basic City services. He is aware of
the budget issues of the City but felt some basic City services is what stands out in
the eyes of the residents. In specific he was referring to snow removal and leaf pick-
up. He stated that he did not have leaf pick-up at all nor was the snow plowed from
his street.
Elsie Glickert, 6712 Etzel
Ms. Glickert was concerned over the up-coming census. She can not understand
how University City in 1970 went from 51,250 to 37,000 residents. She wondered if
the numerous zip codes of University City residents were being counted in the wrong
municipality. Secondly she was dismayed at what was aired on the University City
Charter Channel 10. She wanted a written answer from the administration as to who
was responsible of getting information to channel 10 and why CALOP presentations
or the City Manager’s weekly report could not be viewed here.
M. COUNCIL COMMENTS
Ms. Ricci thanked the Public Works department for attempting a procedure for street
naming. Her concerns were over the cost involved in remapping, in addition to
signage and is the scope broad enough to just include the butting property owners or
should more be able to way-in on it and thirdly what scrutiny or restriction is there for
anyone or group asking to rename a street and she hoped the Traffic Commission
would consider these points. Secondly she wanted to acknowledge the passing of
Kay Archer who faithfully assisted the United Way and assisted in the University City
flood.
Mr. Price’s direction to the City Manager was to get him an update of the amended
recycling initiative of five months previous, in order to see exactly where the City is
with this. Secondly, related to the driving range, to see where it has gone with its
initiative to include the school district in its program and tie into the Tiger Woods
foundation. Thirdly he asked for an update of a year ago of the fire department
becoming a possible mentor for students to encourage them to acquire the skill to
become a fireman. Lastly, he mentioned the pension board meeting charge given to
the members. He stated that the board asked for professional expertise to look at
