<br />To: Honorable Mayor Adams and Council <br />From: Julie Feier, City Manager <br />Date: March 13, 2009 <br />Subject: Weekly Update <br />We received an award for our City Hall this week. Senator Rita Heard Days presented <br />Preserve Missouri Award <br />Mayor Adams the March 5. The Preserve Missouri awards <br />recognize outstanding efforts and projects around the state, and illustrate the diversity <br />of historic preservation issues. Awards recognize a variety of projects including <br />commercial and residential rehabilitations completed by public, private, and non-profit <br />owners, landscape preservation and advocacy. <br />State Emergency <br />The City is preparing an application to receive grant funds from the <br />Management Agency <br /> (SEMA) to purchase the 26 residential homes located on the <br />riverside of Wilson Ave. The City proposes to acquire the homes from willing property <br />owners and return the property to open space. We believe this project is cost-effective, <br />environmentally sound, and the only way to solve the recurring flooding problems <br />experienced by residents on the river side of Wilson. The identified Wilson <br />homeowners are invited to attend a meeting on Thursday, April 2 at 6:30 PM. The <br />voluntary home <br />meeting will be at City Hall in the EOC room to learn more about the <br />buyout project <br />. <br />first for the Olive Boulevard Asian <br />The City will be hosting our bi-lingual meeting <br />business community. <br /> The purpose of the meeting is to help provide an <br />understanding of the City’s Comprehensive Plan Update of 2005, the Olive <br />Boulevard Design Guidelines, and the development subsidy policy for University <br />City. Community Development Director will be on hand to answer questions <br />regarding the documents and how each relates to the City’s vision for the Olive <br />Boulevard corridor. The meeting will be conducted on March 19, 2009 from 3:00 PM <br />to 4:30 PM at LuLu’s Seafood Restaurant, 8224 Olive Boulevard. Please contact <br />Julie Zhang, Administration intern 505-8603 or jzhang@ucitymo.org by March 16 <br />before 5 PM to R.S.V.P. for this exciting event. <br />, <br />Historical Society <br />On Tuesday, March 24 the of University City will present the <br />restoration of <br />CALOP film: “Gates of our Past, Gates of Our Future” the film about the <br />the Lions <br /> at the Gates of Opportunity in the University City Civic Plaza. The film will <br />show at 7 PM the University City Library at 6701 Delmar and admission is free. This <br />film is being shown by the Historical Society in celebration of the 100 Year Birthday of <br /> <br />
