6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, MO 63130 Phone: 314-505-8560, Fax: (314) 862-0694 CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY MINUTES OF THE TRAFFIC COMMISSION February 11, 2009 EOC Room, Basement City Hall – City of University City Greg Paterson called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. Those members present were: Catherine Nichols Donnie Robinson Morton Hyman Stefany Brot Paulette Smith Hyla Bondareff Officer Shawn Margul, (Police Department Representative) Mariela Tapia and Angelica Gutierrez (Public Works Department Representatives) Also present were residents from the 7000 and 7100 blocks of Forsyth. Please find the attendance sheet attached. 1.Petition for Residential Parking Permit on the 7000 and 7100 blocks of Forsyth (North side only) Commissioner Greg Paterson asked the petitioner of the request, Carolyn A. Dolan to state her comments for the request on Residential Parking Permit system on the 7000 and 7100 blocks of Forsyth, north side only, from 9 am to 9 pm, except Sundays. Mrs. Dolan explained how their blocks are affected by non-resident parking. She explained that Washington University students and faculty employees park on the north side of Forsyth and walk to Campus in order to avoid the parking fees that the University charges them. She also explained stated that the volume of cars from residents on the south side of Forsyth Blvd that park on the north side has increased. The excessive parking on the north side blocks visibility for the residents to exit or enter their driveways and sometimes, the cars even block portion of their driveways. She stated that another problem caused by excessive volume of cars parked is the difficulty to the process of the leave collection performed by Public Works. In some instances, the leave collection trucks should pass several times in the same block. Mrs. Dolan compared Forsyth with Maryland Ave and Lindell Blvd, streets parallel to Forsyth and west of Washington University and explained that Forsyth has the same nature as these other streets and the petition should be granted since it is within two blocks of Washington University. Mrs. Dolan also recommended lifting the existing parking restriction on the south side of Forsyth Blvd in consideration to the south side residents. She has not seen two lane traffic flows on eastbound Forsyth Blvd. Mrs. Dana Mareshie, resident at 7199 Forsyth objected the previous statement, by saying that she has seen two lane traffic on east bound Forsyth and they are used by speeding drivers.
