<br />To: Honorable Mayor Adams and Council <br />From: Julie Feier, City Manager <br />Date: March 27, 2009 <br />Subject: Weekly Update <br />local option sales tax <br />As the alone will not solve our financial situation, I updated the <br />March 11 study session agenda information for your discussions with citizens. Your help <br />educating the public, soliciting their input, and engaging them in problem solving is <br />greatly appreciated. Please let me know if there is anything staff can provide to assist in <br />your efforts. Information relating to the August ¼-cent Local Option Sales Tax ballot <br />initiative will be distributed in the upcoming recreation guide, in a FAQ brochure mailed <br />late April and a postcard reminder for distribution to registered voters in July. I attached <br />the executive summary of a whitepaper entitled Navigating the Fiscal Crisis: Tested <br />Strategies for Local Leaders the supporting research papers is available at <br />http://www.transformgov.org/. <br />We are working on a survey that will assist in with <br />education and information gathering regarding resident preferences for revenue <br />generation and city expenditures.
