RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a regular election was held in the City of University City, Missouri on <br />Tuesday, April 7, 1998, to elect a Mayor, one Councilmember from the First Ward, one <br />Councilmember from the Second Ward, one Councilmember from the Third Ward for a four year <br />term, one Councilmember from the Third Ward for a two year term, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said election was conducted according to the laws of the State of Missouri, <br />the City Charter and Ordinances of the City of University City, and the rules and regulations <br />promulgated by the Board of Election Commissioners of St. Louis County, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the following were candidates for the respective office as shown: <br /> <br />Joseph L. Adams <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br />Robert G. Wagner <br /> <br />Councilmember, First Ward <br /> <br />Paul E. Schoomer <br /> <br />Councilmember, Second Ward <br /> <br />Hardy Ware <br />Cassandra B. Colquitt <br /> <br />Councilmember, Third Ward (Four Year) <br />Councilmember, Third Ward (Four Year) <br /> <br />Arthur Sharpe, Jr. <br />Johnnie L. Henderson <br /> <br />Councilmember, Third Ward (Two Year) <br />Councilmember, Third Ward (Two Year) <br /> <br />AND WHEREAS, the following proposition was on the same ballot as shown: <br /> <br />PROPOSITION E <br /> <br />Shall the City of University City, Missouri, be authorized to impose a local use <br />tax at the same rate as the local sales tax by a vote of the governing body, <br />provided that if any local sales tax is repealed, reduced or raised by voter <br />approval, the respective local use tax shall also be repealed, reduced or raised by <br />the same action? A use tax return shall not be required to be filed by persons <br />whose purchases from out of state vendors do not in total exceed two thousand <br />dollars in any calendar year. <br /> <br /> AND WHEREAS, pursuant to Article IX, Section of the City Charter, the election returns <br />shall be canvassed by the City Council at a meeting not later than forty-eight hours after their <br />receipt by the City Clerk, and the candidates receiving the highest number of votes for each <br />office be declared elected, <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, pursuant to the laws of the State of Missouri, the City Charter, and <br />the Ordinances of the City of University City, and the rules and regulations promulgated by the <br />Board of Election Commissioners of St. Louis County, the City Council of University City, at a <br />meeting held on April 20, 1998, at 3:00 p.m., upon the certification of the returns by the Board of <br />Election Commissioners of St. Louis County from the forty-one precincts in the City of <br />University City, and upon certification by the City Clerk of the results of said election held <br />Tuesday, April 7, 1998, in the City of University City, and as canvassed by the Council of said <br /> <br /> <br />
