Special Session 869, llinutes <br />June 26, 1967 <br /> <br />Page 12 <br /> <br />SALARY - CITY~NAGER: <br />l~yor Kaufman stated that the Council has met and discussed an adjustment <br />in the City ~anager's salary and the consensus was to increase it $1000. <br />Councilman Epstein moved accordingly, i~iotion seconded by Councilman Lieber- <br />man and unanimously carried. <br /> <br /> - Y A S' EVE UE: <br />In honnection with the matter of an increase in the City ~nager's salary, <br />the Mayor said he understands from the Director of Finance~ V. A. Ellman, <br />that it is necessary to increase the Prior Years' Revenue by $1,000. <br />Councilman Grimm moved accordingly. Motion seconded by Councilman Epstein <br />and unanimously carried. <br /> <br />WEEI(LY POLICZ DEPARTmeNT REPORT: <br />The Police Department report for the week of June 18, 1967 to June 24, <br />1967, was received and ordered filed. <br /> <br />City Manager Henry pointed out he believes it will be of interest to the <br />Council to learn that this is a 52 week Police Department report - it <br />amounts to the entire fiscal year although it does not end exactly on the <br />e~d of the year, but it does correspond to the previous 52 weeks. He said <br />it shows a very slight increase in the totals. <br /> <br />WEEIILY FIRE DEPARTmeNT REPORT: <br />The Fire Department report for the week of June 18, 1967 to June 25, 1967, <br />was received and ordered filed. <br /> <br />PERSOnnEL DEPARtmENT: <br />The Personnel Department as of the weeks ending June 17, 1967 and as of <br />June 24, 1967, was received and ordered filed. <br /> <br />BILLS FOR ADOPTION AS ORDINANCES: <br /> <br />BILL NO. 6403 AS ~MF2~DED - PROHIBITI~]G CERTAIN PRACTICES RELATING TO SALE <br />OF REAL ESTATE - PATTERNED AFTER DETROIT ORDI~]ANCE: <br /> <br />Councilman Epstein moved that Bill Noo 6403 As Amended be adopted as an <br />Ordinance. Motion seconded by Councilman Grimm. <br /> <br />Councilman Lieberman stated that he would like to make a few brief comments <br />beca~o~ he has had so much cOnv~rsz~iom '~i~h F~o~l~ o~ ~his subject. ~e said <br />he doesn't feel that this particular bill is the one the people wanted, but <br />perhaps this is something that the Council ought to determine - every ef- <br />fort has been made to water this bill down. He said the real estate people <br />have threatened that they would get out of University City if a licensing <br />bill were passed - his thinking is that in a short time they may be en- <br />gaged in the same tactics in other communities and other communities would <br />want to crack down on them and possibly will look to University City to see <br />what it did and then the real estate people must return to University City <br />because they will have no other place to go. He said he realizes they'll <br />have regulations and controls as they should have had from the beginning. <br />He said he thinks the Council is worrying too much about the business that <br />is being regulated and not about the people and the community who are being <br />affected by the tactics of this business, be they professional or not pro- <br />fessional.
