- Page 27

Special Session 869, ~'~inutes
June 26, 1957

adoption. He said historically what the City ~.~nager has done is to re-
view the budget with the Council, but it is his sole responsibility to
submit the budget to the Council. The Mayor said that during the course
of the year he thinks that individual Councilmen do meet with the City
;..~nager - have the opportunity of meeting with him. He added that he
meets with the ~.~nager quite regularly and they review the entire budget.

Councilman Epstein observed that the tax increase was included in the
public hearing that was held on the budget.

Councilman Lieberman pointed out that an article appeared in the Post
Dispatch recently, in large type (headline) to the effect that University
City budget of $3 million would require ar, 11¢ tax hike and in a sub-
paragraph it states that at a public hearing on June 12th it was brought
out that 5% salary hikes contribute to $193,000 increase.

~,~ROVE~2;T OF HANLEY ROAD:
City ~nager Henry said the City is working on Hanley Road, north of
Delmar in the vicinity of the High School, but south of Delmar the
Telephone Company is currently installing conduit and the County has
let a contract for about $100,000 for the widening of the road do~m to
Clayton and he imagines that will be in process very shortly. He said
he assumes that in a couple of weeks Old Bonhomme and M~Knight will also
be torn up.

i,~yor Kaufman pointed out that with regard to the electric signal in
front of the Hanley Jr. High School, there is mo place to go northwardly
and all of the cars pile up at that intersection. The Mayor suggested it
might be well to turn that particular signal off or put it on flashing.

ADJOUP~NT:
On motion of Councilman Bamburg, seconded by Councilman Grimm and unani-
mously carried, the meeting adjourned at 10:42 P.M.

City
