RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A <br />UNIVERSITY CITY ADVISORY BOARD FOR ECONOMIC PROGRESS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of University City is a first-tier suburb facing the same <br />challenges and stresses of such inner-ring suburbs around the country; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of University is committed to taking a proactive <br />approach to dealing with these challenges and stresses; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these challenges and stresses will be lessened with a vibrant, healthy <br />economic climate within University City: and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of University City has a long tradition of turning to its residents <br />for advice and guidance in areas of concern to the city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of University City has among its residents experts in the field of <br />economic development and redevelopmenh and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of University City also has businessmen and women who are <br />very interested in increasing the economic vitality of the city: and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, many of these residents and businessmen and women have expressed <br />a willingness to volunteer their services, expertise and advice to advance <br />economic development and redevelopment in University City; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that <br /> <br />The City Council of University City authorizes a voluntary Advisory Board for <br />Economic Progress to work under the direction of the City Council to study the <br />options for economic development and redevelopment in the city for a period <br />of not more than 6 months; and <br /> <br />This Advisory Board will consist of resident experts in the field of economic <br />development, redevelopment and associated fields, as well as other local <br />residents and businessmen and women as stakeholders in our economic <br />progress, will be representative of the community to the greatest extent possible, <br />and the resident chairs of the University City economic development <br />commissions will be invited to participate; and <br /> <br />Each member of the Council will appoint at least one representative to the <br />group, with the final size and composition of the group being agreed upon by <br />the full Council through consensus where possible, or by a vote of the majority <br />when consensus cannot be reached; and <br /> <br />This Advisory Board will study the current situation in the City of University, look at <br />possibilities for future development and redevelopment that will enhance our <br />community, and will examine ways to increase the competitiveness of University <br />City in the St. Louis metropolitan area; and <br /> <br /> <br />
