Bill No. 8028 became ordi- <br />nance No. 5818. <br /> <br />Mayor MajenJS said public comments will be entertained prior to the readin;1 <br />of the next six bills, which have to do with yard waste. <br /> <br />Mr. Stanley Harris, 640 Vassar, said he talked with about 30 residents since <br />the last council meetin;1 and. came up with a rnnnber of ~tions: 1) <br />Hold the cost of stickers as low as possible, pert1aps to 50 cents; 2) Senior <br />citizens should receive SPeCial consideration, since physically they may not <br />be able to rake, turn compost, etc. ; 3) Postpone beginning the program for at <br />least a rronth since many may be on vacation and. not aware of the new require- <br />mentsi 4) the City should provide cleaning of the sewer openings so those who <br />fonnerly did this do not incur this expense; 5) Reduce the proposed $500 fine, <br />give a warning ti.cket before actually fining someone, and. provide an appeals <br />procedure; 6) Form a citizens or adviso:ry group that will evaluate the yard <br />waste program and suggest changes or improvements. <br /> <br />Mayor MajenJS said the citizEm8 Task Force on Resource Conservation was <br />fonned at the beginning of the year and. has been meeting rronthly since then. <br />She thanked Mr. Harris for his comments and. for sharing the opinions of the <br />citizens with whom he talked, and. said his suggestions will be considered. <br /> <br />BILL NO. 8029 - AMENDING CHAPI'}<::R 14 MUNICIPAL roDE REIATING TO GARBAGE, REF- <br />USE AND WEE:I::6 BY REPEALING SECrION 14-1, AND ENAcrING IN LIEU 'IHEREX:>F A NEW <br />SECI'ION 'IO BE KNCMN AS "SECI'ION 14-1. Bill No. 8029 became Ordi- <br />nance No. 5819. <br /> <br />Mayor MajenJS said at the last meeting several residents living on County <br />roads were concerned about the cost, under the new regulations, of having to <br />put all their leaves into yard waste bags. Mr. Ollen:lorff said the County <br />has agreed to allow these citizens to rake their leaves into the street if <br />the City schedulE$ a pickup for them. He said the City will do this and. ad- <br />vise the residen1:s when this will take place.
