II <br /> <br />'!he bill was assigned No. 8034 arxl given its first reading. <br /> <br />Mr. Stanley Harris, 640 Vassar, said he was an avid gardener arxl he hoped ap- <br />proval of the bills just introduced will not create a hardship for residents, <br />especially the elderly. He said citizens have several concerns: that people <br />be given wamings before they are fined; that they will still be able to put <br />out burrlles of twigs, branches, etc.; arxl the cost of the special stickers <br />arxl paper bags that must be purchased for yard waste. He suggested that ad- <br />ditional park space be used to do more composting, but Mayor Majerus pointed <br />out that last year citizens voted that designated park space may not be used <br />for anything other than what it was used for prior to the vote. <br /> <br />Mr. Nick Frederiksen, 420 N. Hanley, said those living on County roads are <br />not permitted to rake leaves into the street for pickup in the fall, arxl he <br />asked whether some consideration could be given those residents. He noted <br />that bagging the leaves would result in a prohibitive cost to residents. <br />Mayor Majerus said she wasn't sure that problem had been considered, arxl <br />thanked Mr. Frederiksen for bring this to Council's attention. <br /> <br />Ms. SUsanna Gremling, 416 N. Hanley, said if a prohibition continues on rak- <br />ing leaves into the street on Hanley, she felt those residents should be pro- <br />vided with the bags arxl stickers at no cost. . <br /> <br />Mr. Adams asked the city Manager to contact the County to see if residents on <br />County roads could be permitted to rake leaves into the street at collection <br />time.
