As a former health care <br />worker, she wanted to know what precautions will be taken by Interstate Blood <br />Bank in disposing of blood products and used needles, adding that children <br />and even adults go through the durrpsters in the alley behind this building. <br />She was also concemed about the value of her property, the safety of her <br />neighbors arrl herself, about people loiterirq in the area, ani about litter. <br /> <br />Mr. D:mi.el Davenport, 7220 Colgate, said the residents in his private suJ::x:ii- <br />vision had grave ooncerns about the proPOsed cash for blood business on Olive <br />ani were very much oppose:l to its opening. <br /> <br />Ms. Genies Jordan, 7035 Melrose, president of 7000 Melrose Bloc:k Unit, said <br />her nain concern about the proposed blood bank was the type of activities as- <br />sociated with such a place, and she was worried that her children or others <br />might pick up a stray needle. She thought perl1aps the building owner might <br />not have been aware of the kind of business he was brirqirq into the city. <br /> <br />Mr. David still, 7005 Carrden Court, chainnan of Canrlen-D:>Ver Neighbortlood As- <br />sociation, said the proposed blood bank will increase both vehicle and foot <br />traffic in the area. In view of the many children in the area, he asked the <br />Council to consider the safety hazards of this place when it makes a decision. <br /> <br />Mr. Rery Ellinger, 7340 Melrose, president of the Musick Neighbortlood Associ- <br />ation, noted that all in the large audience this evenirq were adamantly op- <br />posed to the openirq of the cash for blood business at 7301 Olive. He asked <br />the O:luncil to think creatively, and devise a way to keep this business from <br />opening. He suggested there might be something in one of the health codes <br />(county, state, or federal) that would apply in this situation. <br />
