Mr. Adams second- <br />ed the rrotion, which carried unani.Ioously. <br /> <br />OA'IHS OF OFFICE <br /> <br />Ms. Corene Brown, newly appointed to the Traffic Camm.ission, and Ms. Karen <br />Palmer, reappointed to CAIDP, were given the oath of office by the City Clerk. <br />Mayor Majerus thanked Ms. Brown and Ms. Palmer for agreeing to serve and said <br />their assistance is welcome in helping Council make its decisions. <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER I S REroRl'S <br /> <br />RJRClIASE OF REFUSE PACKER TRUCK <br /> <br />The city Manager recormnended the purchase of a 1982 FordjHeil rear-loading <br />refuse packer to be used primarily for brush pickup that cannot be handled <br />with the city I s existing mechanized collection fleet. The vehicle has been <br />tested and found to be in good condition with an expected life of at least <br />five years. The cost is $35,000 fram Anror Equipment; a corrparable new vehi- <br />cle would cost at least $80,000. <br /> <br />Mr. Adams moved approval, seconded by Mr. Wagner. All voted Aye. <br /> <br />FUBLIC HEARING - VACATING RIGHl'-oF-wAY. APPI..EIDN BEIWEEN CDJLIIX;E AND RIVER <br />DES PERES <br /> <br />The city Manager said a public hearing was set for this time and place to re- <br />cei ve comments on the proposal (fram adjacent property owners) to vacate pub- <br />lic right-of-way on Appleton between Coolidge Drive and the River Des Peres, <br />excluding the walkway to the bridge. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus opened the public hearing at 7: 39 p.m. <br /> <br />Mr. B. J. Beckum, 1400 Coolidge, an adjacent owner, said he would take re- <br />sponsibility for maintaining the property next to his that is being consid- <br />ered for vacation. <br /> <br />There were no other requests to SPeak and the Mayor closed the public hearing <br />at 7:41 p.m. <br /> <br />Responding to Mr. Price, Mr. Ollenclorff said the reason for this proposal is <br />that neighbors have frequently complained about urrru1.y youngsters congregat- <br />ing at this location and distw:i:Jing the neighborhood. <br />
