<br />SESSION 1576 <br /> <br />MINU'I'ES OF '!HE UNIVERSITY CITY CXXJNCIL <br /> <br />August 17, 1992 <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the City Council of University City held in the As- <br />sembly Roam of City Hall on l-k>rrlay, August 17, 1992, Mayor Janet Majerus pre- <br />sided am called the meeting to orner at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the Mayor, <br />the following members of the Council were present: <br /> <br />Mr. Byron R. Price <br />Mr. JClSeIi1 L. Adams, Jr. <br />Mr. Robert G. Wagner <br />Mrs. Mary V. Schuman <br />Mr. Paul E. Schoaner <br />Mrs. Betty L. 'Ihalpson <br /> <br />Also present was City Manager Frank Ollerrlorff. <br /> <br />MINU'I'ES <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner lOCJVed that the minutes of July 27, 1992, be awroved as submitted. <br />Mr. Adams secorxled the IOOtion, which carried unaniJoously. <br /> <br />CDNFIRMATION OF F.T F.(!J'TON <br /> <br />Mrs. Schuman lOCJVed that Council confirm the election of Lyma Taylor to the <br />Board of Trustees of the Non-unifo:rmed Employees Retirement F'urrl. Mr. Wagner <br />secorxled the IOOtion, am all voted Aye. <br /> <br />OA'IH OF OFFICE <br /> <br />Mr. James D. Cheny, recently reappointed to the Library Board, was given the <br />oath of office by the City Clerk. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus thanked Mr. Cheny for agreeing to sel:Ve again, adding that one <br />reason the Library is so excellent is because of the board members' hard work. <br /> <br />RESOIlJrION <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus referred to a resolution which asks that the President am U. S. <br />Con:JreSS enact federal legislation that will reduce military SPerrling am re- <br />allocate the savings to America's cities. <br /> <br />Ms. Rosie Robertson, 8109 Canton, spoke for the resolution, saying the CO\.ll1- <br />try' s survival am well-being deperrls on reallocating the reduction in mili- <br />tary SPerrling toward increasing the in:iustrial base am creating good jobs. <br />She asked Council to approve the resolution. <br /> <br />Mr. I.eonard Fichtenbamn, 6647 Kingsbm:y, also supported the resolution. He <br />said 40% of Paris, France's annual budget ccmes from its national government, <br />allowing the city to have exceptional government sel:Vices. SUfficient taxes <br />are collected for U.
