<br />SESSION 1564 <br /> <br />MINUI'ES OF '!HE UNIVERSITY CITY CXXJNCIL <br /> <br />February 24, 1992 <br /> <br />At a regular meeting of the city Council of university City held in the As- <br />sembly Room of City Hall on Morrlay, February 24, 1992, Mayor Janet Majerus <br />presided ani called the meeting to orner at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the <br />Mayor, the following members of the Council were present: <br /> <br />Mr. Josept L. Adams, Jr. <br />Mr. Robert G. Wagner <br />Mrs. Mary V. Schuman <br />Mr. Paul E. Schc:x::mar <br />Mrs. Betty L. '!hompson <br /> <br />Absent: Mr. Byron R. Price, who was excused. <br /> <br />Also present was City Manager Frank Ollendorff. <br />MINUI'ES <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner moved approval of the minutes of February 10, 1992, as submitted. <br />Mr. Adams secorrled the rrotion, which carried unanimously. <br /> <br />AProINIMENI'. RF.AProINIMENI'S <br /> <br />Mrs. Schuman moved the appointment of Ms. Jane Morris, 6960 Watennan, to the <br />Municipal Cammission on Arts ani letters for a tenn expiring January 2, 1996. <br />Mr. Schoorner secorrled the motion, which carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mrs. Schuman moved the reappointments of Mr. Edward crenshaw, 7745 Peach Tree <br />lane, ani Mr. Don Wylan, 7354 Melrose, to the Park Camnission for tenus ex- <br />piring January 21, 1995. Mr. Wagner secorrled the motion, ani all voted Aye. <br /> <br />FINAL REroRI' - CITIZEN TASK FORCE FOR RESOURCE mNSERVATION <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus said the final report from the citizen Task Force for Resource <br />Conservation was now finished after a full year of work. She congratulated <br />the members ani said she had not imagined this report would be so comprehen- <br />sive ani beneficial to the city. Task Force Olair Joseph Eigner came forward <br />ani introducecl Wayne Munkel, Brian Kalcic, ani John lllczsznski, members who <br />were present, ani Nicolette Smith, head of Ames Place recycling, who helped <br />in the Task Force study. Mr. Eigner said the main reasons for recycling were <br />economic ani envirornnental. He noted that larrlfill space is dwirrlling, ani <br />even though new sites may be developed, those costs are predicted to escalate <br />20% a year. '!he Task Force-reconunended program will cost the City $300,000 <br />more per year than is spent currently, but if nothing is done, in about four <br />years increased larrlfill costs will amount to at least that much. He noted <br />that revenue from recyclables is now lOW', but the Task Force believes the <br />market will ilnprove as the economy does. Envirornnentally, materials thrown <br />away contribute to planetary degradation, but recycling cuts dOW'n on lani, <br />water ani air pollution.
