II <br /> <br />The bill was assigned No. 8054 and given its first reading. <br /> <br />Mr. Jim Holtzman, Executive Director of the Tax Increment Financing Commis- <br />sion was introduced and responded to questions. Mayor Maj ems said the Com- <br />mission is moving ahead in fine fashion and doing an outstanding job of help- <br />ing to ensure an excellent future for university city. <br /> <br />CDUNCIIMEMBER CXl>1MENI'S <br /> <br />Mrs. Schuman, referring to the conunents of Mr. Boyce and Mr. smith, said that <br />several Plan Commission members also expressed frustration at the lack of <br />tools available to deal with the problem mentioned. She asked that the Plan"'- <br />ning staff and Plan Commission discuss this matter further. <br /> <br />Mr. Schoomer moved that a resolution be drafted that expresses the City Coun- <br />cil's support of the School Board's decision to ask voters to approve a tax <br />increase and bond issue at the April 7, 1992 election. Mr. Wagner seconded <br />the motion, which carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus recalled that the state legislature passed a bill last year <br />that adds a Missouri use tax on gocrls bought outside Missouri and brought in- <br />to the state; that legislation is ncM being challenged in court by several <br />large companies. She said Missouri Attorney General Webster will defend the <br />suit, but Senator Goode has asked that as much communication as possible in <br />support of the legislation be sent to Mr. Webster. She proposed to write a <br />letter of support, signed by the entire Council. All agreed. <br />
