Session 1727, Minutes 1 1
July 13, 1998

ESTABLISH A STOP SIGN ON AHERN AVENUE WESTBOUND AT RAISHER DRIVE;
CONTAINING A SAVING CLAUSE AND PROVIDING A PENALTY.

The bill was given its first reading and assigned Number 8395.

A bill was introduced by Mr. Wagner, entitled

AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE COMPENSATION TO BE PAID TO CITY OFFICIALS
AND EMPLOYEES AS ENUMERATED HEREIN FROM AND AFTER JUNE 24, 1998
REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 6170

The bill was given its first reading and assigned number 8396.

METROLINK COMMUNITY WORKING GROUP:

Mayor Adams said that a community working group was being formed to deal with the
extension of the lightrail system. Under this proposal, a number of entities or people
will be appointing agencies, one being University City. The Mayor will be making the
appointment on behalf of the City. He asked the members of the Council their ideas
and recommendations for possible appointments. They will probably be asking for his
input quickly. The report which he received said set out some directives in selecting
appointees: 1 ) it was critical that this community working group balance the interests of
different localities and neighborhoods; 2) Ensure the voices of system users, funders,
residents and majority property owners are represented in deliberations; 3) Includes
regional perspective and represent the interest of the region, preservation, design
environmental communities. 4) The appointing bodies will be asked to exercise care in
selecting appropriate persons, ideally sending to the community working group,
individuals with knowledge of past planning processes and a demonstrated ability to
balance specific concerns with larger community perspectives. He asked Council to
keep these directives in mind, as they send him ideas and recommendations.

Mr. Munkel asked what the end product of this working group would be. The Mayor said
that they would recommend to the design group. The design group, in turn, will bounce
concepts to them as they go along. They will not be, in a sense, making
recommendations. Mr. Munkel asked if they would be an advisory group. The Mayor
said yes and, possibly, more.

Mr. Schoomer said that he and Mr. Sharpe would be going to the meeting about this
tomorrow. Mayor Adams said that Mr. Wagner would also be attending. It will be at the
Clayton Community Center at 7:00 p.m.
