Session 1727, Minutes 9
J_uly 13, 1998

community input forums, as Mr. Ware mentioned earlier. They need people with
abilities to come forward during these forums who can do the things that they are
suggesting in the paper. The committee is asking the City Council to accept their report
in concept and to adopt it. They will also be asking the same of the School District.

Mr. Ware said that everyone, on the commission, had spent a great deal of time and
effort on this paper in reviewing data, information trends, both economic and populus
Census information to provide a model for University City in order to make attempt it to
improve University City as a whole.

Mr. Sharpe moved adoption of the working paper. Ms. Colquirt seconded the motion,
which carried unanimously.

PERSONNEL REPORT:

Mayor Adams noted receipt of the personnel report for the week ending July 10, 1998.

POLICE REPORT:

Mayor Adams noted receipt of the police report for the month of June, 1998.

CITIZEN COMMENTS:

Ms. Margaret Frazier, 1460 Sheridan, said that she was here to complain about the
mosquito problem. She said that they used to spray for them long ago and the City
stopped a few years ago. You can not enjoy the outside of your home, because they
are so bad. She wanted to know what areas of the City was being sprayed and which
were not.

Ms. Ramona Sykes, 1464 Sheridan, said that she had the same concern about the
mosquitos as did her neighbor, Ms. Frazier. Her other concern is that there seems to
be too many overcrowded homes and that they are not getting inspected. The houses
are falling down around them. The area looks horrible. She understands that the City
has an inspector, but she does not see the job getting done.

Mayor Adams asked if Ms. Sykes had spoke with her Councilmembers or the City
Manager about these problems. Ms. Sykes said that she had. Mr. Ollendorff said that
he had not heard from Ms. Sykes since last fall and that she needs to keep calling him.
Ms. Sykes said that the mentality of the neighborhood is changing and she does not
want to bring any negative attention to herself. She should not have to tell the inspector
what to do. A dog was loose last week and chased a kid into her back yard. She called
animal control and was told he was on the way, but he never showed up.
