<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES OF UNIVERSITY CITY COUNCIL <br />SPECIAL SESSION <br />May 11, 2009 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The Council Special Session, held at Centennial Commons, Board Room, on Monday, <br />May 11, 2009, was called to order by Mayor Adams at 7:00 p.m. In addition to Mayor <br />Adams, the following members of the Council were present: <br /> <br /> Mr. Michael Glickert <br /> Mr. Arthur Sharpe, Jr. <br /> Mr. Terry Crow <br /> Mr. Robert Wagner <br /> Ms. Lynn Ricci <br />Absent was Byron Price. <br />Also present were the City Manager Julie Feier and City Attorney John Mulligan. <br /> <br />The special session was a joint meeting with Olivette City Council for viewing presentation <br />by Suttle-Mindlin Architects’ assessment of the redevelopment opportunities in the Olive <br />Corridor. Their plan is to incorporated ideas showing that the future of cities lies in a <br />deeper understanding of the changing values and evolving human needs which affects the <br />marketplace, driving toward new solutions. <br /> <br />Suttle and Mindlin’s expression in presentation was: <br /> <br /> What does it mean to strive for sustainability, connectivity and a higher quality of <br />life? <br /> <br /> A new definition of success for a changing world. <br /> <br /> Goal is to achieve a higher level of expression and a more intimate relationship to <br />the street. <br /> <br /> Destination and revitalization is possible. <br /> <br /> Being creative in use of big box retailing is a better way to plan for anchor tenants. <br /> <br /> Design to reinforce the street and make great urban rooms. <br /> <br /> A place you could live a richer life…right on “main street”. <br /> <br /> A vision to organize cities and provide a secure and sustainable foundation as in <br />educational, medical and corporate campuses. Combine this with world class parks <br />and infrastructure, making the cities more livable and a regional destination. <br /> <br /> Understand what is driving the real estate market. <br /> <br /> By jointly working together, strength can be gained by each community’s unique <br />qualities…complement each other’s offerings. <br /> <br />Suttle-Mindlin stated that each City is in control of its own vision and instead of doing an <br />RFP, each city should do a RFQ. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
