We are in the process of finalizing surplus equipment and other items for sale on-
line via an internet auction.
The auction will begin on October 9 and close on
November 9. PurpleWave.com will act as the on-line auctioneer because the firm has
previous experience working with other cities. They do not charge a commission and
they will photograph and complete the asset description forms at no extra charge. The
firm will post the items on line and administer the entire process from receiving bids to
collecting the funds. The City is completely out of the bidding and administrative
process. PurpleWave has 50,000 registered users already. Anyone and everyone who
registers at the Purplewave.com website can bid, including our residents, businesses
and employees. Registration is free. The highest bid wins. PurpleWave collects the
funds and issues the City a check. A preliminary list of items to be auctioned is included
as an attachment. We will be advertising the surplus sale in several local newspapers,
online, and by posting a flyer at various locations, including City Hall and the Library.
Serena Jones and Fannye Houston
received meritorious citizen award for their
actions on August 27. Congratulations and much thanks to Ms. Houston and Ms. Jones
for assisting a citizen in need. Their attention to their neighborhood identified a resident
who was semi-conscience. They quickly contacted emergency response crews and
carefully attended the victim until help arrived. It was later discovered by medical
personnel the victim was suffering the onset of a diabetic coma. Their awareness and
quick response to the aid of this citizen possibly prevented serious injury or death.
The Department of Community Development is coordinating a large volunteer clean-up
Volunteers will provide yard work, light maintenance,
effort with the United Way.
and other small-scale beautification improvements to University City residences,
primarily those owned by senior citizens or individuals with disabilities.
