<br />To: Honorable Mayor Adams and Council <br />From: Julie Feier, City Manager <br />Date: October 16, 2009 <br />Subject: Weekly Update <br />On Tuesday, October 20, the City with Freddie Mac will host aHousing Resource <br />Fair <br /> at Heman Park Community Center. The fair is designed to educate potential <br />homebuyers on how to purchase a home, identify available homes for sale in University <br />City and explain how to finance the purchase of a home. There will also be information <br />available on how to make homes more affordable to operate through home <br />weatherization, how to repair credit, refinancing options and how to avoid foreclosure. <br />The Fair will run from 5:30 - 9:00 PM. At 5:30 PM representatives from Freddie Mac will <br />give a presentation entitled “Making Home Affordable” concerning refinancing and loan <br />modifications and at 6:30 PM there will be a workshop on home buying. Door prizes will <br />be awarded and refreshments will be served. For more information, call Petree Eastman <br />at 505-8534. <br />next County League <br />The meeting will be held at 7:30 PM on Thursday, October 22 at <br />the Missouri American Water Central Plant, 901 Hog Hollow Road, Maryland Heights. <br />The main item of business will be the adoption of the Report of the Legislative Affairs <br />Committee, followed by an E-911 presentation. The legislative report is attached for <br />your consideration. <br />Proposition E911: On Nov. 3 Ballot to Improve St. Louis County Emergency <br />Communications. <br />On the recommendation of the police and fire chiefs and citizens <br />serving on the St. Louis County Emergency Communications Commission, voters <br />countywide will see Proposition E911 on the Nov. 3 ballot. Proposition E911 would <br />provide funding to improve emergency communications throughout St. Louis County <br />through a one-tenth of one cent sales tax. Similar measures have already been passed <br />by voters in St. Charles and Jefferson counties as public safety agencies work to meet <br />new FCC requirements for emergency communications. St. Louis County’s Proposition <br />E911 will fund improvements to the most critical emergency communications that affect <br />citizens. Better communication means faster response times and more effective <br />coordination of emergency services. Proposition E911 would provide: <br />Up-to-date 911 technology <br /> so that individuals placing emergency calls from <br />their cell phones can be located quickly and reliably; <br /> <br />
