BILL 9024 - An ordinance imposing an additional one-fourth of one <br />percent sales tax on all retail sales made in the City of University City <br />which are subject to taxation under Chapter 144 RSMo, and providing for <br />the submission of a proposition authorizing such tax to the qualified voters <br />of the City of University City at an election on August 4, 2009. <br /> <br />Introduced by Mr. Sharpe <br />6. BILL 9025 - An ordinance imposing an additional one-fourth of one <br />percent sales tax on all retail sales made in the City of University City <br />which are subject to taxation under Chapter 144 RSMo, for Economic <br />Development purposes, and providing for the submission of a proposition <br />authorizing such tax to the qualified voters of the City of University City at <br />an election on August 4, 2009 <br />. <br /> <br />CITIZENS COMMENTS: <br />Edward McCarthy, 7101 Princeton Ave <br />Mr. McCarthy suggested that the three tax proposals not be put on the ballot <br />as we are in a difficult economic period and he thought one would be <br />adequate but all three is ridiculous. He felt the City finance numbers always <br />changed at the end of a fiscal year making the budget to be balanced. <br /> <br />RESOLUTIONS <br />7. Resolution 2009 – 1 Neighborhood Improvement District in University City <br />was moved for approval by Mr. Crow, seconded by Mr. Glickert and was <br />approved unanimously. <br /> <br />8. Resolution 2009 – 2 Budget amendment No. 1 for FY 09 was moved for <br />approval by Ms. Ricci, seconded by Mr. Sharpe and was approved <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />L. CITIZEN COMMENTS <br /> <br />Ben Yavitz, 6301 Cates <br />Mr. Yavitz commented on the City encouraging recycling but he saw no recycling <br />containers in the Loop area. Secondly Mr. Yavitz stated he was a child development <br />expert and felt there was no evidence that a curfew would lower or prevent crime. <br />He felt the Loop was to show the existence of a community of which he grew up in <br />and felt the 10 o’clock curfew was pointless. <br /> <br />Elsie Glickert, 6712 Etzel <br />Ms. Glickert suggested push bumpers be installed in front of police cars in order to <br />expedite removal of cars stalled in the intersections. Ms. Glickert also agreed that <br />three tax increases should not be on any ballot for vote. <br /> <br />M. COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Mr. Glickert talked about the recreation guide that was just received and wanted to <br />address the hours of public swim. He felt there were enough college kids available <br />to open the pool at noon on weekdays as well as weekends and asked the City <br />Manager to look into it.
