Session 1677, Minutes
September 9, 1996

Page 11

COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS

Mayor Adams asked the City Manager to look into the possibility of condemning two four-family
buildings at 1000 and 1008 Wild Cherry which are in extreme disrepair and have become a detriment to
their neighborhood. The owner has not responded to a summons or any other communication from the
City.

Mrs. Thompson said a radio report said that University City had taken some buildings. Mayor Adams
said he believed that report was about housing in Parkview Gardens, and Phase I and Phase II of the
Parkview Gardens Rehabilitation Project was approved by Council some time ago. Mr. Ollendorff said
renovation was being done only on derelict buildings that have been vacant for quite some time and only
when a developer is willing to meet City Codes and make the housing habitable again.

Mrs. Thompson said she was concerned about young people who no longer go to school, and she sug-
gested that a committee be formed to work with families to see if they can't get these children back in
school. Mayor Adams noted there are a number of programs in University City aimed at young people;
one is called InterAct, which is run by several churches which are actively working with youngsters.

CITIZEN COMMENTS

Mr. Amos Green, 7641 Hawthorne Place, said he received a ticket for parking his truck overnight on
the street and did not know there was such a law. Mr. Ollendorff said new residents are made aware
of this law when they get an occupancy permit, it is printed every year on the City calendar, and at least
once a year there is an article about it in CityScape, the city newspaper.

ADJOURNMENT

Mayor Adams adjourned the meeting at 8:57 p.m.

, u
Dolores A. Miller City Clerk
