.City .of. <br />Urnversify <br /> <br />6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 862-6767 <br /> <br />JOINT RESOLUTION ON METROLINK <br /> <br />JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCILS OF THE CITIES OF BRENTWOOD, CLAYTON, <br />MAPLEWOOD, RICHMOND HEIGHTS, SHREWSBURY, UNIVERSITY CITY, AND WEBSTER <br /> GROVES <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, efficient, comprehensive and environmentally sound transportation is of primary <br />concern to all great metropolitan areas, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the introduction of MetroLink through St. Louis City and St. Louis County has been <br />a tremendous success for the entire region, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the undersigned cities fully support the pending MetroLink extension to and through <br />St. Clair County, Illinois, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the East/West Gateway Coordinating Council ("East/West Gateway") is currently <br />considering the next routes and areas for MetroLink extensions and shortly will be making decisions re- <br />lating thereto, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Citizens for Modern Transit owns the former Terminal Railroad right-of-way from <br />Page Avenue south to Highway 44 (hereafter, the "CMT Right-of-Way"), and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, of the several new routes being considered by East/West Gateway, the undersigned <br />cities unanimously believe that the CMT Right-of-Way should be chosen for the following reasons: <br /> <br />1) It would serve a major South County population area; <br />2) It would generate new jobs and business opportunities all along and in the broad vicinity of its <br /> route; <br />3) It is immediately ready for transfer to and use by Bi-State without additional expensive land <br /> acquisition costs; <br />4) It may easily be extended further south and also north to the airport along existing and available <br /> rights-of-way; <br />5) It can be efficiently connected with the original MetroLink route at one of several existing <br /> stations; <br />6) It would be environmentally sound and desirable in that thousands of persons throughout each <br /> day would use it instead of their automobiles. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY ALL OF THE UNDERSIGNED CITIES, AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. The undersigned cities hereby endorse the CMT Right-of-Way as the next MetroLink <br />route to be designed, funded and constructed. <br /> <br /> <br />
