The <br />inventory for Government Emissions will examine vehicle fleet, buildings, streetlights, <br />waste, employee activities and possibly water/sewer. Ms. Baker will be utilizing the <br />software provided by ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability. Creve Coeur, <br />Clayton, and Kirkwood have used the software successfully. <br />Recreation scholarships are available to individuals or families to reduce the cost of <br />Six recreation scholarships <br />program or facility use. have been awarded to University <br />City residents since September 1, 2009 totaling over $850. Ten additional grants have <br />been awarded, but not yet redeemed. Everyone should have the opportunity to improve <br />their quality of life through recreation facilities and programs. The scholarship program <br />is available to residents who meet qualifying income requirements and there are still <br />funds available, call Leslie with questions 505-8617. <br />Planning and Zoning program <br />Advanced modules of the begin next Thursday, <br />January 14 at UMSL. The program is tailored for planning commissioners, elected <br />officials, professional and citizen planners. Advanced Issues in Planning and Zoning, <br />consists of six modules, or class sessions, that include lecture and discussion. You can <br />still register for the series or individual modules. ($300 for the series or $60 per module). <br />Classes are held from 6 - 9 PM on Thursdays in the J.C. Penney Conference Center, <br />University of Missouri-St. Louis, beginning on Jan. 14 and ending Feb.18. Sessions <br />include Site Plan Review; Annexation; Financing; Responsible Growth, Storm Water <br />Management, and Sustainable Site Design; Integrating City and Regional Plans; and <br />Transportation and Land-Use Connections. A complete description of each module, <br />instructor biographies, and registration information is available at http://ce.umsl.edu/pz. <br />The American Planning Association and the Local Government Partnership, (University <br />of Missouri and East-West Gateway Council of Governments) sponsor the program. <br />The Missouri Municipal League (MML) Board of Directors have approved MML <br />participation in a lawsuit challenging the ballot language and fiscal note on an initiative <br />“court reform” <br />for that would require the election of all judges, including municipal <br />judges on a partisan ballot. Currently, each city has an option of appointing or electing <br />the municipal judge. We will keep you informed of developments. <br />The MML Annual Legislative Conference <br /> will be held February 17-18 at the Jefferson <br />City Capitol Plaza Hotel. Registration material can be found on the MML Web site. The <br />Missouri League encourages all city officials to attend this important, informative <br />conference. <br />The MML Board of Directors recently undertook a strategic planning process that <br />resulted in new goals for the MML in the areas of member services, advocacy and <br />board and member involvement to ensure that we produce the greatest results for the <br />reducing the number of issues of the <br />members we serve. As a result, they will be <br />Missouri Municipal Review <br /> from 10 issues per year to six. The Review will still serve <br />as the premier official publication of the League. This decision reflects our commitment <br />to do more for you – not less – and to do it more effectively. As you know, many new <br />forms of communication exist today, and the MML is dedicated to providing more timely <br />information and resources to our members through these new venues. <br /> <br />
