<br /> <br />Brittany Woods Middle School, 8125 Groby Rd. gave an update of their double-decker bus <br />project. They were picked to proceed in the competition which is scheduled for January <br />2010. They have since talked to Metro and the Loop Business District and have considered <br />different avenues of funding. The group is asking the Council to support them in order to <br />bring the pilot bus to University City in February 2010. <br /> <br />Mr. Price asked what their next step would be and he asked the Mayor to have a resolution <br />by next meeting for approval for a pilot for the double-decker bus. Ms. Ricci seconded the <br />motion and was approved unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner complimented the team and said they could all be on the Council in the future. <br /> <br />Rodney Jennings, 1306 Mr. Olive <br />Mr. Jennings complimented Mr. Lehman Walker as he was a great manager, role model, <br />citizen and friend. He commended the young men from Brittany Woods. Mr. Jennings <br />stated that surrounding neighbors were upset by the code violations issued by the <br />department of Community Development. He stated he explained to them that it is <br />necessary in order to be safe, stable, and reduce the amount of nuisance properties. He did <br />ask that time be given to some in financial need. Mr. Jennings also asked that the Senior <br />Citizens be given consideration in code violations. He stated that the home improvement <br />assistance has more applications than money and Mr. Jennings formally proposed that we <br />become our brothers’ keepers. Mr. Jennings proposed the formation of “U Helps U” to <br />create a fund to help the senior citizens and those on fixed incomes to take care of their <br />property, neighborhood and our city. He presented a certified check as seed money to start <br />the fund with Royal Bank. Mr. Jennings asked the Council to donate one dollar tonight. <br /> <br />Ms. Ricci asked if he had a business plan for this venture. She asked for him to develop this <br />and get back to the Council. <br /> <br />Mr. Price asked the City Manager if there is a way for residents to check a box to give an <br />extra dollar through their refuse bill. Ms. Feier thought it would be possible and thought they <br />could incorporate it in at no cost. He asked the City Manager to get to Council with its <br />implementation. <br /> <br />Mr. Glickert said that as the liaison to CALOP he said this is precisely how CALOP if funded <br />and they have been very successful. <br /> <br />Wilma Kennell, 1332 Purdue <br />Ms. Kennell was concerned with the outsourcing of the fire dispatching and wanted some <br />explanations of it. She also asked for an explanation of why the fire chief lives in O’Fallon <br />and the City pays $22,000 a year for him to commute back and forth. Mayor Adams stated <br />she will get a written response from the City. <br /> <br />Elsie Glickert, 6712 Etzel <br />Ms. Glickert stated that you will wait a long time before getting a response. She said she <br />has asked the Council last month about the contract on outsourcing of fire calls. She stated <br />she has yet to hear one word from the administration. Ms. Glickert stated that for the benefit <br />of people on Council, the City has had dispatching of fire and police since radio was <br />invented. Ms. Glickert said that for some reason influences by the fire chief, who does not <br />live here and does not have vested interest, this council was given a contract to view and <br /> <br />
