course operations. In October, the committee voted by a majority of four to three to ask the
Council to sunset the committee. The final October meeting minutes were submitted as
unapproved because their final meeting in November lacked a quorum.
Mr. Crow moved to sunset the commission and was seconded by Mr. Price.
CITIZEN COMMENTS
William Field, 7152 Kingsbury
Mr. Field said it was regrettable the committee recommended to the City Council to be
dissolved is regrettable. The majority was so presumptuous that the committee did not feel
the Council cared about what was happening at the golf course despite the wording of the
resolution. He stated that because of all the controversy and questions on the driving range
the authors of this resolution felt the Council should be kept better informed about the
operation of the golf course. Mr. Field said the committee was to be that operation linked
and he felt it was difficult to believe that the Council thought that link was only to last about a
year. He thought the Council should get new members if the majority of the commission
were so align with the attitude of the Park Director and Administration and are not willing to
fill the stated objective of the resolution. Mr. Field said how regrettable it would be for the
Council to deny itself of a means to provide an open and transparent view of the Golf
Course operation.
Stefany Brot, 8145 Cornell Ct.
Ms. Brot stated that she was selected as the secretary of the Golf Advisory Commission and
presented a copy of the minutes for every meeting to the Council. She said the Council felt
that the objectives given to the committee had been met and the majority vote was that they
had met the goals and was an ad-hoc committee and should be sunset. Ms. Brot said there
were many disagreements. She said they were proud that the Council voted six to one for
the driving range. Ms. Brot said they listened to neighbors and made many modifications as
LED lights, tree protection, and the City to receive the profit instead of the pro. Ms Brot said
she is proud to say the driving range is a success after several years of the golf course
losing money.
Mr. Sharpe asked Ms. Brot what the vote was by the committee to sunset. Ms. Brot said it
was four in favor to three against.
Ms. Ricci wanted to be clear that a vote was four to three and there was not an issue of not
having a quorum. Ms. Brot stated the only issue of approval was the last set of minutes did
not have a quorum for approval. Ms. Ricci said she liked the citizen participation and if you
retire from this committee to please stay active in another. She felt if the remaining three
were still interested, the Council could draft a new mission and get some more involvement
as citizen involvement is what it is all about and they could continue on with a new set of
goals.
Mr. Wagner ask for clarification that the goal of setting the committee was to bring the
accounting of the operation into this building and to have available accurate and correctly
separated out the driving range and the golf course totals. He asked Mr. Field and Ms. Brot
if that goal had been met. Ms. Brot said that Mr. Field and she would never agree and that
is okay in our country but the majority felt that their goal had been met. Ms. Brot stated they
also had worked with the neighbors’ concerns. Mr. Field did not feel the goals were met as
they were to keep the Council informed as to what was going on both financially and
15
